A rainy September morning full of humidity...enough already.
The team of Nancy B,. Mike Torsney and Dick Scott delivered the opening ceremonies and we all learned that the Queen's full name is Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Winsor. They say you need to learn something new each day-done! Thanks Mike!
Kathy T introduced our guests:
Dana Smith –Rotary Burlington
Stella Jo Cedello and Frederick Dryden from Liberty for Youth
Nina Walsh-Welcome back- lovely to see you!
And Viktor – our inbound student.
Mike talked about the District Conference and mentioned that our sorely missed Cam Rothwell will be honoured- well deserved. Visit www.rotary7080conference.com
for all the details.
Randy Reeve and the happy couple of Nancy B and Andrew presented Frederick with a cheque for $20,000 from the golf course to further his cause. He noted that we were the first organization to support them with a $500.00 donation 12 years ago -a good investment methinks.
Viktor talked about the differences between his school system in Poland and here but he likes it. He visited the CNE and volunteered at Ribfest ON GARBAGE DETAIL!!! Welcome to Canada...................................
Kathy Thomas and Nancy Brady are celebrating or celebrated birthdays- 35 again right?
Rod "the pickpocket " Collard was in fine form eliciting "donations" form Ellliot for his 2 year month anniversary. Keep that up and Elliot will be broke.
Karmel just for a bunch of back charges. Rene for always being front and centre in media across Canada –even in Banff. Maybe Rod can use some of his income to buy Nancy B an atlas as she had no idea where Lake Louise was. She does now.
Something fishy was going on regarding children's books an author and Dory and Nemo---to early in the morning for this scribe to follow that. Al lI know is Nina won a gift certificate to Brown's Social House and graciously returned it as it is a bit of drive from Texas- I don't care how good the food is. Expect to see that again.
Happy dollars aplenty.
Mike for losing 14.5 lbs
David Roscoe 's daughter was featured in a film about Legends of the Future.
Nancy Brady had a wonderful proud mother moment applauding the turnaround that her son has made as he works his way toward being a plumber.
Ron Lambert almost choked wishing the Blue Jays well in the pennant race. Say it like you mean it Ron.
Wayne Gowen commented on a fabulous 6 country tour of Europe- and you came back because?
Needless to say it was a very busy morning and Rod made out like a bandit.
Randy Reeve introduce Frederick-no stranger to our Club. He talked about his run from Ottawa to Hamilton. Why you might ask?
Well because............
Liberty for Youth started in 2003 out of the basement of Frederick and his wife's home. Frederick always knew that he would do something to help young people as he knew the challenges of navigating through life as a youth. One thing people learn about Frederick when they first meet him is his passion and heart for young people, especially those in crisis or conflict with the law. Liberty for Youth has been evolving for over 12 years now thanks to the integral partnerships and donors who have invested their time and money.
So, why a 650km run? Sadly, the vision was born out of a very deep loss. During the last two years, Liberty for Youth tragically loss two of their youth participants. These youth were beyond our reach and effectiveness due to lack of funding and programming. This only reminded Frederick of the need to have more programming and staff to meet the ever changing needs of our young people today. Frederick will tell you he is not a writer or a singer, however, he has his feet and legs and he can run. Compassion and unconditional love is the forerunner of this marathon and Frederick has made up his mind that he will never have to turn away a youth ever again. The Run for Youth campaign will provide program sustainability, male/female equity, and a broader understanding and awareness of what youth face today in our culture and how important it is for us to do something to help.
Frederick has raised $253K of his 650K goal. If you wish to help him make it to the finish line, please visit
www.runwithfrederick.com to donate.
That's all for this week!
CeeBee out.
