Never say never folks....didn't want to have to cop to the fact that the scribe forgot the bulletin 2 weeks in a row so here you go!
I had the good fortune of being in the back of room scrambling for paper to scribe as a fill in and didn't get the frontal assault on the anthem. Pretty poor...just saying....
Guests of the morning were our 3 exchange students, Mana, Anel, and Sean, Anan from Lakeshore Rotary and our guest speaker Deirdre Thomas from the Lighthouse.
3 Very interesting updates from our students.
Sean regaled us with his recounting of the recent Robotics competition that his team took part in at Durham College. His video captured the event very well- especially the part where his robot's arm fell off. I'm no scientist but even I know that ain't a good thing. Never mind -they soldiered on and placed 5th out of approx. 60 teams and are headed off to Knoxville for the next round. If they are successful there they will advance to the World's in Detroit. Got get'em Sean!
Anel's March break included a trip to a Radical Generation event empowering young women in Toronto. She saw Captain Marvel, visited some Estonians thanks to Joe who then took her to his daughter's store and bought her a very cute spring outfit. Thank you Joe! She went to a maple syrup festival and attended Comic-Con in Toronto and feasted on Chinese food in Chinatown afterwards.
Mana, last but not least attended an event in Hamilton where she was able to present a female Nobel Peace Prize winner with the gorgeous piece of origami that she showed us a week ago or so. Absolutely delighted to have met her. She sold origami cranes at the event and made $132.00 which she donated to charity. Our future is in good hands. She visited The Kitchener Waterloo clubs thanks to Wayne and caught her first glimpse of Mennonites. Finished off the week by snowshoeing up north at a cottage and tasting maple sugar candy.
A busy time for all of them....I am exhausted just writing about it.
Mae started off by having everyone stand and you were able to sit if you attended the events that she rhymed off. Mad a few bucks methinks.
Happy $$ came from Rene for his brother's 58th birthday. Roscoe for a whirlwind tour of the world visiting his daughters.
Owen had a blast at Mae's St. Patrick's day fest. Mae thanked Sheila and Nancy for their help. Joe forgot his breakfast duty and paid a fine and Nancy and Dave Beckett were very smart to take a taxi home from Mae's. I live right around the corner and didn't hear any Irish tunes floating through the neighbourhood.
Anan from Lakeshore came to talk about the 1 million dollar (US$) Campaign for the Foundation and they are looking for $10,000.000 donors who will be recognized with a dinner Donations may be in cash or a bequest in your will. May 6th is the deadline.

Albert introduced Deirdre Thomas from The Lighthouse- now in their new location at Bronte Road and Rebecca in Oakville. She gave us an annual update and wanted to thank us for our continued support of the programs for children dealing with loss and grief. She ran us through and exercise that they go through asking children to take a paddle and answer the questions she asks with Yes I have or No I never. She asked us things like Have you ever eaten a whole pizza, made fun of Justin Beiber, eaten dog food by mistake, laughed until stuff came out of your nose , jumped into water fully clothed and then it gets into the more serious questions such as have did you have the chance to say something to someone before they passed away etc.. It is a very successful exercise as it gets kid s talking about their feelings without really knowing it.
She talked about the Run4Lighthouse on Sunday June 1st at Lion's Valley Park at 8:30 a.m. It takes 150 volunteers to run it and she is asking that we be Ambassadors for the event by mentioning it to friends and family . You can register at RunfLH.com both as a participant or volunteer.
Next week's speaker (that would be tomorrow) is Fareem Sanhji talking about Python's Pit
Enjoy the sun while it is here!
CB out.......
