Okay so missed the first part of the meeting as I wasn't supposed to be the scribe that day but as know one else was taking notes I started. So just assume that the opening ceremonies went off without a hitch and that the regular announcements were made!
Top of mind is Lakeside. TICKETS, TICKETS, TICKETS! Please circulate the information toe anyone and everyone you know. Using social media is a great way to have 2 people tell 2 people who tell 2 people...well you ge the picture. Also looking for the 150 for 150 items for the silent auction. Counting on y'all!
Joseph Brant is hosting tours of the new patient tour on August the 1 and August the 2nd. To register you can visit their website or call 905-632-3737 ext 2038
Burce Maybury, one of the 5 new sheriff's in town, took to the podium. Acknowledged July birthday's-Peter Skoretz, John Allinotte, Kathleen O'Connor and David Roscoe.
Karmel and Sheila celebrated their Rotary membership anniversaries as well. Bruce fined those who had failed to bring in wine for the Golf tournament.
He singled out Rene for organizing the team so well today which, well, was a bit of a surprise according to Bruce! Commented on Karmel changing the name of his bathroom to Jim so when asked if he had gone to the Jim today he could, in true Rotary form, answer Yes!
Bruce laid out some ground rules for the meetings . Things like wearing your pin, RSVP'ing to invitations, and above all keeping it zipped during our guest speakers and own member presentations. Fines will be levied for infractions! Don't say you haven't been warned!
Happy dollars!
Nice to see Rick Howarth back and even nicer to take 20 bucks off him! Very appreciative of the hospitality shown him by Jamie Edwards and Sherri and the Allinottes. Heading off to Ottawa shortly and contemplating authoring "The Senior's Guide to Couch Surfing"!
Rod was excited to eat an entire breakfast as he was not on duty as the SAA! It must have been really exciting as he forgot to pay!
Randy Reeve was happy to be celebrating his 40th wedding anniversary- the question was "is Denise as happy"!!!!
Sheila was happy that Wictor made it safely to the airport in one trip- not three!
Andrew challenged Bruce on excluding the President's July birthday and was promptly shut down as President Janet did not include her birthday on her clubrunner profile! So there......
Kathleen introduced our guest speaker Jawaad Sheikh an engaging young man who spoke to us about computer, password and data safety. Jawaad developed a company that develops apps for computer security He began as a student at Sheridan College. He became a teacher there and has a Masters from The University of Guelph. And oh yes apparently he is a cat person!!! Commented on the terrific atmosphere of our club. Before his presentation he issued a disclaimer that nothing is foolproof and that education is the best defense. Data is the new currency and is of value to someone. LinkedIN data recently sold on the black market for a mere $1200.00. Scary. The US office of Personnel Management had the information on 4 million US government employees stolen and didn't' notice for a year. Scarier. A Hospital in Hollywood CA paid $17,000 ransom for the return of patient files.
He spoke about password protection. Don't use the same one for every account and the minute you hear that someone with whom you have an account has been hacked CHANGE IT! "1Password" is a good app to use to manage password. By adding a ? or an ! to your password you lengthen the time it takes a hacker to access your account to 128 years.
If you are the victim of Ransomware disconnect your computer from the network ASAP. While you are panicking they are rifling through your files.
E-mails are a new threat. If you think it is a fake e-mail do not open it. If it is important enough someone will get back to you.
The balance of my notes are primarily a reproduction of Jawaad's presentation which he kindly provided. It is attached for your review.

That's all for now!
