International Women's Day!
Opening ceremonies conducted nicely by our President and the team. Abraham and Karen Candy, our guest speaker were the only guests.
A few announcements from the floor and podium…..
Sadly Barb Hislop has tendered her resignation from the club.
Bob Bosworth's wife has passed away for those of you who know him through the other Rotary Clubs. Our condolences Bob.
We have the opportunity for some hands on volunteering. We will be serving breakfast at the Senior's Centre on April the 7th and Saturday May the 5th. More details and sign up to follow.
We are also going to participate in a RBG project reclaiming a pathway. It will include some light lifting and planting. I don't believe the date has been confirmed. Stay tuned!
Jamie has organized the BIG Bike Ride for Heart and Stroke for us in August.
If your name is below you have volunteered to pedal! Looks like a gas so if you are interested please let Jamie know.
David R., Bruce, CB, Janet, Andrew, Rod, Richard, Gerry, Jamie. That's 9- lots of seats to fill!
Abraham reported on his whirlwind week.
He has certainly taken to our winters- clearly hasn't lived here long enough. Delighted to have been with the other Exchange students in Collingwood courtesy of Dean and Beth where he hot-tubbed, saunaed, ( is that a word?) then cut a hole in the ice and swam. Oh to be young and foolish again!
He followed that up with dog-sledding. How many of us have done that!
He capped off the week with a soccer game between Mexico and Canada with Karmel.
I'm tired just thinking about it!
SAA was yours truly - Did a little history quiz on women in the world and Rotary. Only took Rotary 27 years to figure out that we are a valuable asset. Better late than never!
Happy Dollars- I apologize if I don't get them all-:
Albert for having come through his operation with flying colours. Lovely to see you back Albert.
Gerry was happy and sad to be back from his beach vacation.
Bruce is delighted at hat his daughter and family are transferring back to Ottawa from out west. A little less time on the road in his future.
That's all I can remember!

Our guest speaker was Karen Candy and is not stranger to us. Karen is the ED of the Carpenter Hospice and came to give us an update on the new addition. She recognized the contribution of the 4 Burlington Rotary clubs and in actual fact - something that I didn't know- the legal registered name of the Hospice includes the name Rotary.
They are currently in expansion mode. The construction is taking place in 2 phases and began in November. The first phase is an addition to the building in order to move the resident rooms to the new wing. The second phase will see the existing spaces used for ever increasing outreach programs.
They offer Musical Therapy, Bereavement and Supportive Care for all members of the families as well as a Wellness Outreach programs. Since opening their doors in 2002 they have helped and comforted over 2300 patients,
They have a staff of 26 on the Clinical team, a Leadership team of 12 and scores of volunteers .
Everything is at no cost to the family.
Karen thanked the many Rotarians who have currently sit or have sat on the Board and contributed to the Hospice.
Thank you to Karen and her staff for providing such a wonderful service to our community.
Our guest speaker this week is Gabriel Munro- Amarok Society
See you then!
