Great day to scribe!!! Lovely to see a gorgeous sunrise during our meeting- only thing missing from the Holiday Inn.. Speaking of the Holiday Inn I wonder how many were in attendance at the Holiday Inn today!!!!!! Our meeting this week was at the newly opened Joseph Brant Museum hosted by Elaine Scrivener, John Doyle, and Kim Watson-Director of Museums and catered by Coffee Culture. Our guests were Yahel, Nathan Gowan, and Seans's parents. John gave us an overview of the happenings at the Museum. He was delighted to inform us that over 600 visitors stopped by on Family Day. The Museum contains the Burlington Room dedicated to the history of Burlington and in particular the Brant Inn and the Builders Gallery highlighting some of Burlington's historic families and businesses. The main gallery is home to travelling exhibits from around the world. The opening exhibition featured a display from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, The current exhibition is called Giants Dragons and Unicorns and is on loan from the Museum of Natural History in New York. There is also a room devoted to STEM ( Science-Technology-Engineering-Math) with interactive activities for kids. The next exhibition is a cultural exchange with the Barbados and is called the Colour of Barbados. Kim reminded us that Ireland House is also part of the Museum family and features actual artifacts used by the original Ireland family on their farm on Guelph Line north of Upper Middle. The Museum also offers Summer and March Break Camps for kids. Several of us commented on the lovely meeting room and what a great rental space for weddings and receptions. Hope that becomes a good revenue stream for them! Saving Thyme is the next dinner destination and will held on Next Tuesday the 25th. Please contact Rod to confirm your reservation.! The Rotary Rides website is up and running or should I say riding!! This is an important new fundraiser for our club and the expectation is that all of us will either put a team together, be on a team or donate to one of our club riders. The website is www.rotaryrides.com. Please visit it and help make this a superb event in support of the Burlington Food Bank and our Club! Stay warm! CB. |
