Another lovely summer morning heralded in by 2 count'em 2 verses of Oh Canada including the voices of our "Gentle Maidens"-Hilarious......
Jim Brindle had the onerous responsibility of introducing our guests...not...as there were none. Well done Jim.
Presiding PP Jamie commented that it was because he was taking the meeting and Nancy was speaking................
Glenn followed up with the 4 way test.
Our annual BBQ at Jamie and Sherry's is on August the 22nd. Pre-payment of $25.00 is required as we had a lot of last minute shows last year which put a strain on the food and the hosts.
Please be prepared to pay this Thursday. A reminder will go out for those of you who skim or skip the bulletin!!!
You will be asked to bring an appetizer, salad or dessert based on numbers attending.
Kathleen added her voice to the new format of the meetings and expressed her disappointment in the fact that the speaker wasn't able to finish. Obviously some discussion to follow.
Mae commented on the fact that Lakeside had 82 volunteers spots lined up so thank you to everyone who helped.
Jamie is bringing Roman Martiniuk to Lakeside- a past member who may be interested in re-joining. Hope some of you were able to say hello on Sunday.
SAA Rod announced some August membership anniversaries. Albert ,Peter and Jamie-1986 Rod turned 70 on the 6th of August - the same day as Hiroshima..coincidence?
An interesting quiz on Woodstock--I was only 13!
Yasgur's Dairy Farm was the location as the Town of White Lake wisely created a by-law prohibiting festivals of over 5000 people.
Cost was $7.00 a day or 3 days for $15.00. That won' even buy you a beer at an event today!.
If you were rowdy or out of control you were hit with seltzer bottles and a cream pie in the face. Interesting. Must have worked as there were only 33 drug arrests out of 400,000 people .
666 washrooms were on site.
The funniest act was that Roy Rogers was asked to close out the weekend! Fortunately he had a previous engagement!
A tidy sum was collected for all the wrong answers!
Eric introduced Susan Jasper and Nancy- our wonderful Telling Tales Ambassador and founder.

Susan spent 20 years in publishing and came up with a brilliant idea for a Children's Literacy Festival and here we are now with not 1 but 3 events tied to Literacy.
The original Telling Tales is being held on September the 15th from 10-04 at Westfield Heritage Village.
That is followed by an event celebrating graphic novels for older readers a the Hamilton Library on September 21 from 1-3 and also new is the Nature Tales being held at the RBG on the 22nd of September.
The Festival has a strong Board of Directors who have been able to source and secure additional funding allowing them to have a farther reach into the community. Included are Neighbour and Community events, Story Telling workshops and Family Literacy Events in schools.
Some very exciting things happening this year. Sharon, Lois and Bram's book is being launched at Telling Tales. Robert Munch and Jay Odjikc- a Quebec indigenous illustrator- have collaborated on a book
in Algonquin and English and will be present.,
Arcelor Mittel Dofasco is once again sponsoring busing to the event for families who may not otherwise be able to attend. Good on them.
19 Rotary Clubs support the event and Susan was very thankful for our continued support.
What can we do?
1. Promote the event through a link on our website.
2.Talk it up to friends and family
3.Bring your grandkids
4. Donate books for the very popular Book Swap-Gerry has offered to collect and deliver them.
5.Volunteer
6. Consider becoming a leader and joining the committee
Jamie thanked Susan and Nancy for a great overview of the event and after a not so rousing rendition of Skinamirinkidinkidoo (sp!!!!) the meeting adjourned.
