Hi everyone. This Bulletin will be shorter than most as we had no speaker, per se, as the business part of the meeting was spent going over the Operating and Charitable Funds budgets.
Our only Guest today was Nancy Penney. Hope she will be a member of our club again soon.
With Lakeside coming up, Bryce Leggatt introduced his Committee that did a lot of work in making the event a success. I can say that it was a success as I am writing this after the event has been held. We reached our target of 600 attendees – first time ever, so thanks have to go to the various committee members and our club members who went all out this year to promote Lakeside. I sat at a table that had 6 individuals who had never attended before and they were thrilled with the event and I’m sure they will be back next year. The lottery was a huge success as well as the silent auction so it will be interesting to see the total monies raised. There are a few photos from this year’s Lakeside including the winners of the lottery in our Rotary website.
Next meeting is at Jamie Edwards place down on the Lake – 31 Lakegate. To get there, from the QEW, take the Centennial exit north and go east towards Niagara. As you cross under the Grays Road overpass, you will see Drakes Dr. Turn left and drive towards the Lake to Lakegate. #31 is down on your left. Honorary members of the club have been invited as well as partners/spouses of members.
Telling Tales is looking for books that would be of interest to children from babies to age 14. Please bring any that you have to the Club meetings and Gerry Willard will get them to the Festival.
Ribfest is looking for volunteers. Let Janet know if you are interested in helping out.
Rod Collard was back as Sergeant at Arms today. As we walked into the meeting we were handed slips of paper with a name on them. For example I was given a slip with Bonnie. I had to find out who Clyde was and sit down with my partner and dream up who we would like to fine. Among the fines was a tribute by Kathy Thomas and her partner in this fining exercise to Dave Beckett who, along with the Partners of his Accounting Firm have donated $10,000 to the Golf Tournament, and almost as much more to Lakeside and the other fundraising events that we participate in. Thank you Dave and your Partners.
We then moved on to discuss the Operating Budget which was approved along with the fees for the coming year of $375.00 made up of $250 (the club portion) and $125 (the Paul Harris portion). Rob Sybersma, our Treasurer led the discussion on this budget as well as the Charitable Funds Budget.
On the Charitable Funds budget, a lot of questions came up and it was decided to review it again later. It was decided that both budgets would be emailed out to the whole club so they could review the budget and come up with questions for further consideration.
