Simple grace, modesty and honesty.
Let’s put our speaker right at the top of this week’s bulletin. Nancy Penney presented her classification speech and I’ll say this, if you weren’t there you missed a talk of simple grace, modesty and honesty.
We had a few announcements to pass along. Treasurer Rob Sybersma advised that you should by now have received by email a tax receipt from the Rotary Foundation for your annual USD100 donation. The receipt will show the donation in Canadian dollars. But watch out, if you made any additional; donations like betting against Mike Molloy’s weight loss, that additional donation may or may not be there – mine wasn’t.
The club will run Guess Who’s coming to Dinner again. If this is a new one on you, here’s how it works. By participating you agree to host one dinner at your place and go out to dinner twice. As host you don’t know who’s coming to dinner, as one of two guest parties you don’t know who the other parties are.
Arrangements are all made secretly AND YOU DON’T BLAB ABOUT WHERE YOU’RE GOING, WHO YOU SAW OR WHO CAME TO YOUR HOUSE (It’s happened). It’s all a nice spontaneous surprise for everyone; and a lot of fun. More details to follow.
We were advised that John Zinkie (RCBN) is retiring from the position of Assistant Governor for the Burlington clubs and a replacement is needed. If that interests you speak to President Janet.
Then with Abraham, every time it’s a classification speech. At today’s meeting he had to catch us up on a Christmas season’s worth of stories. There were many sumptuous meals to be reviewed, there was ice-skating (needs practice he said), a visit to the Science Centre, which was incredible and included an Imax movie where he thought he was inside the action. Then came the New Years season and more food. He went out for snowy hike with Rod Collard and fed birds at RBG and walked on a frozen lake. He likes everything.
As Sergeant at Arms, Rod, did a little review of his RBG hike with Abraham and shared Abraham’s simple pleasures: the crunch of snow, experiencing a forest and walking on ice. Perhaps mundane to us, but then….
