gender inequality and extreme poverty
Oct. 19, 2017
My name is Sam and I am an Associate on the Community Events & Organizations team at Plan International Canada in Toronto. As you may know, Plan International Canada is one of the largest charities in Canada and a world leader in the fields of gender inequality and extreme poverty. Our Because I am a Girl initiative is a global movement to address power relations to help girls learn, lead, decide and thrive. I know that our global goals align very well - like Plan International Canada, Rotary Club addresses global issues such as disease eradication and maternal and newborn health. I applaud your organization for its dedication to providing humanitarian service, here in Canada, as well as internationally. The purpose of my note today is to introduce myself and Plan International Canada as we are currently in the midst of one the most exciting times in our 80 year history! We have launched a five-year strategic plan that hopes to reach 20 million children and inspire 8 million actions from Canadians. We want to ignite a new movement in Canada and around the world. In order to achieve this ambitious goal, we hope to improve our partnerships with like-minded organizations across Canada. Given our similar missions, I would be honoured to have the opportunity to attend one of your meetings to formally introduce myself and speak about the work that Plan International does on the global stage. It is always so wonderful spending time with like-minded individuals that are just as passionate about changing the world as we are! I understand that you book your speakers well in advance so please do not hesitate to suggest a time that may seem quite far in the future. |

Obakki Foundation
Nov. 16, 2017
Thank you for your interest in having me speak to the Rotary Club about the great work being done by the Obakki Foundation. What sets us apart from other charities is that 100% of all donations (every penny!) goes directly to the project(s) being supported. All administrative costs are covered by the Obakki fashion line (www.obakki.com). We also have teams on the ground working within communities to ensure the success of our programs, which facilitates a connection between donors and the people they are helping via regular updates. We work in South Sudan (drilling water wells in villages without access to clean water) and Cameroon (mainly with orphanages). I think it would be best to focus on either South Sudan OR Cameroon (although I would touch briefly on the other area of focus) to keep the talk to a manageable length. I've included links to both areas on our website to give you a sense of the work so you can determine which projects would best suit your objectives. Our water projects in South Sudan: Our work with orphanages in Cameroon: Information about our founder, Treana Peake: How we work with donor partners: I've known Treana for over 25 years and can attest to this work being her purpose in life. I've worked with the Obakki Foundation on and off in a variety of capacities since its inception (they are based in Vancouver so my work is done remotely and I also join her on annual trips to Cameroon). They do amazing, life changing (and saving) work! Please let me know if you have any questions or require additional information. Have a great weekend, Lori |

Fraud presentation - Halton Regional Police Service
Mar. 01, 2018
Good afternoon Sir, I am getting in touch with you regarding your interest in having Fraud investigators come and present at one of your breakfast meetings. Fraud Prevention month in March is a national event amongst law enforcement, financial institutions and governments. If possible, we would like to kick off our Fraud Prevention Program of presentations and initiatives with our first presentation at your Rotary club meeting on March 1st. If this is agreeable with you I wanted to ask if it would be possible for us to possibly have some media attend and take photos and to add those photos to our Twitter page? Please let me know what you think. Sarah Rudall

Amarok Society
Mar. 15, 2018
Overseas, Amarok Society has seen real success in our model for bringing lasting change to an overlooked education crisis. We’ve done this by helping some of the poorest women in the world become catalysts of sustainable change in the world around them. But Canada faces its own education crisis, which is also overlooked, and which also must be addressed through a spirit of innovation. Through their work in First Nations education, Amarok Society founders, Dr. Tanyss and Gem Munro have witnessed the serious educational disadvantages afforded to our Indigenous youth right here at home, with significant repercussions. Education deficits have a ripple effect to other areas, as evidenced by the gap between Indigenous populations and the average Canadian populations in health, income, justice, and social issues. There is likewise a serious gap between the equality we Canadians say we stand for, and the reality of life for most Indigenous youth. Amarok Society is opening a new chapter – Amarok Society Indigenous – which will ultimately establish a month-long leadership academy for indigenous youth, beginning with workshops of shorter durations where indigenous youth are. Our methodology draws upon Indigenous traditions, history, and culture to create transformative change in students’ lives. Unlocking long-standing impasses through conversation-based workshops, Amarok Society Indigenous leaves youth leaders with an unprecedented capacity to alter their lives and the lives of those around them. We are presently scheduling speaking engagements for your area, and would be very pleased to have the opportunity to speak to the Rotary Club of Burlington Central about our new initiative. My father, Gem, will be in the area in March. Please advise us if it would be possible to arrange for this. Thanks for your consideration, - Gabriel Munro www.amaroksociety.org/wordpres |
