Ernst Oidtmann played the piano as we sang the Rotary Welcome song, and his tribute to Holland, Tip-toe Through the Tulips.
Today is the 82nd anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. Pearl Harbor Trivia:
The naval station on Pearl Harbor was established in 1908. There were concerns that Japan would attack the Philappines.
Every battleship in Pearl Harbor—USS Arizona, USS Oklahoma, USS California, USS West Virginia, USS Utah, USS Maryland, USS Pennsylvania, USS Tennessee and USS Nevada—sustained significant damage.
All but USS Arizona and USS Utah were eventually salvaged and repaired.
The most deaths happened on the USS Arizona.

Club Business Meeting:
Public relations – Rich Wallace gave us an update on efforts being made to keep our page updated and fresh. He gave us a tour of the page. Encouraged members that have Facebook accounts to like the club’s Facebook page and to follow it. If you see a post you think some of your friends might like to see it, consider sharing the post. If you have news you think should be shared via our clubs page, send that info to Rich. If you haven’t visited the page recently, consider doing this. This is the link: https://www.facebook.com/rotarycluboflebanonnh
Strategic Plan – Final copy of the strategic plan was circulated to the membership. Dave Crandall asked if there was any additional information members wanted to share. No additional comments were shared by the members who were present at the meeting. Marilyn Bedell has created a link to the strategic plan on the ClubRunner website it will be found under the “For Members” drop down menu.
Tuck School of Business Consultation/Recommendations: Ahmad Haidari provided an overview of the the project deliverables.
Project Goals Tuck students established with our Membership committee.
Evaluate current marketing initiatives and efficacy.

Develop a social media strategy to engage with new demographics.
Increase membership by seven members in 2024.
OUTCOMES
Ahmad Haidari shared the PowerPoint that was shared with the membership committee yesterday. Marilyn Bedell will send the PowerPoint to members in a separate email. Ahmad reminded everyone that these are just recommendations and no decisions have been made about them by the Membership committee.
Membership Survey: Willie Koppenheffer will be sending all members a membership survey to assess satisfaction, dissatisfaction, and neutrality about the operations of our Rotary Club. The survey will be one that is modified from a survey recommended by Rotary International. He encourages us to be candid in our responses. The survey will be confidential. It will be a combination of items to be rated with a Likert scale from 1-5 and room for narrative responses too.
Holiday Dinner will be next Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at 5:00 PM at the Quechee Inn. Don’t forget to bring you Yankee Swap gift ($15 limit on new item, and regifting items of any value can happen too.)
The Board of Directors meeting scheduled for December 26th will be rescheduled.
Happy Dollars
Rich Wallace announced that after 30 years the Valley News will go back to being a 6-day a week newspaper. The Saturday paper will be the weekend edition and have many of the sections that would have been found in the Sunday paper.
Bruce Pacht reminded us that today is the first day of Hanukkah. His family (20) will be coming to his home this Saturday for their traditional Hanukkah gathering. Furniture has been rearranged so all can be in one room, the living room, for the meal.
Phil Bush let us know that his daughter’s birthday is today. Seven days from now will be the anniversary of her adoption, then on the celebration of Christmas. Phil then went on to report on a trip he made to CVS. Once back in the car, the song on the radio was Barbara Streisand singing You Don’t Bring Me Flowers. Phil took this as a sign and went to a flower shop in WRJ and got flowers for his wife. He said it was the best thing he has done all year, and recommended that other consider doing this too.
Ernst Oidtmann thanks 3 of his fellow Rotarians for volunteering to help move just over 20 boxes from Jon Blodgett’s home to a storage locker at Exit 17. Once the boxes are moved, Jon’s home can be placed on the market for sale. Jon is grateful for the help he is getting from the club.
Angela Nelson reported on the holiday basket project. See pictures below. We provided gifts for 19 kid who are a part of 7 families in the Upper Valley. She thanks everyone for their support of this project. In addition, Angela was happy to report she will be going to a Disturbed and Falling in Reverse rock bands concert at Mohegan Sun. She also recommends going to the Garden of Glow in Boothbay Harbor.

You are among Rotary’s strongest supporters, and it’s my privilege to invite you to view our 2022-23 annual report. Thanks to your generosity, we can all reflect on another year with pride in our achievement and ambition for the future.
The commitment of friends, leaders, and problem-solvers united in taking action makes a life-changing impact. This past year, 1,098 global grants supported large-scale projects, scholarships, and vocational training teams. Leaders who are building peace in the Middle East or North Africa will soon have the opportunity to get world-class professional development at the newest Rotary Peace Center at Bahçeşehir University in Istanbul, Turkey. Our global polio eradication effort is intensifying through our joint commitment with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Our progress in advancing important causes is possible because of your support.
As you explore the stories, review our finances, and hear from our community of donors in this year’s report, I hope that you’re as inspired as I am by the change we’re making – change that adds hope to people’s lives today and makes a difference for years to come.
Sincerely,
John Hewko
