PROGRAM

Our Club's Strategic Plan

Bruce Pacht reviewed the work of our Strategic Planning Committee that was composed of 14 self-appointed members of our Club.

We were reminded that we started strategic planning at our Club Visioning session back in January 2018.  Our task of task at the session was to envision what our club would look like in 5 years, or what we would look like in the 100th year of Rotary in Lebanon.

The draft we are reviewing today was authored by Bruce Patct, Bill Secord and Paul Tierney, then reviewed and approved by the committee and our board to present to the club for adoption.

We were reminded that this would remain a "living document" and should and would be reviewed periodically to make sure it would stay relevant to Rotary in Lebanon.

Bruce began is talk by reviewing overarching principles of Rotary International (RI).

You are encouraged to review the following RI documents that provide a framework for our global orgnaization:

    • Use my professional skills through Rotary to mentor young people, help those with special needs, and improve people’s quality of life in my community and in the world
    • Avoid behavior that reflects adversely on Rotary or other Rotarians
  • Declaration of Rotarians in Business and Professions
  • Rotary revised Strategic Plan that focuses on increasing our impact, expanding our reach, enhancing our engagement and increasing our ability to adapt.

Bruce Pacht

Bruce then walked us through each section of the Strategic Plan.

  1. STRATEGIC VISION
Lebanon Rotary will be a recognized force for good in the community as one of our City’s premier service organizations.  Our membership will be diverse and our attitude will be inclusionary.  We will develop the next generation of leaders through our focus on youth service in Lebanon and throughout the world.  We will enjoy productive relationships with other not-for-profit organizations and public institutions that share our goals.
  1. CORE VALUES IN ACTION
  • SERVICE:  We apply our vocational expertise, service, and leadership to tackle some of the world’s greatest challenges.
  • INTEGRITY:   We honor our commitments and uphold ethical standards.
  • LEADERSHIP:  We take the lead to create positive change in our communities and to provide opportunities for younger leaders to make their contribution.
  • DIVERSITY:  We consciously seek representation from all segments of our community; we connect different perspectives and approach problems from many angles.
  • FELLOWSHIP:  We build lifelong relationships that promote greater global understanding.
  1. STRATEGIC PRIORITIES
  • Focus on and increase service
  • Build fellowship to strengthen the Club
  • Enhance public image and awareness
  • Increase fundraising activities to support initiatives
Tactical Priorities where summarized.  There are too many to be tackled at one time.  It will be up to the Board of Directors to determine which ones will be worked on first.

At the end of the discussion, the Strategic Plan was adopted with the understanding that as a "living document" it can be modified and adjusted over time.

From RLI...Should our club participate?
If your club cares about its future, it will want the best leadership possible. This is an outstanding opportunity for each club to improve the Rotary knowledge of its key people, who will also be exposed to new ideas of leadership. The exchange of ideas with other experienced Rotarians alone makes the courses worthwhile.

Having members attend all of RLI is one of our Strategic Tactics.

Connecticut River Clean-up

Ernst Oindtmann share that there will be a Connecticut River Clean-up on 28 & 29 September 2018. Stay tuned for more details.  This clean-up will be coordinated by the Connecticut River Conservancy. From the Conservancy web page:

It’s All About Hard Work, Real Fun, True Impact

The Source to Sea Cleanup is an annual trash cleanup of the Connecticut River system – rivers, streams, parks, boat launches, trails and more. Each fall, thousands of volunteers of all ages and abilities head out to places of their choice all along the four-state watershed (NH, VT, MA, CT) to clean the Connecticut River and its tributaries on foot or by boat.

In 2017, more than 2,500 volunteers pulled over 46 tons of trash from over 249 miles of river banks and waterways. Read more about the 2017 event in the Cleanup Chronicle (PDF), including the list of groups that participated and the tally of all trash pulled from the river.

The water is cleaner, river banks are safer and wildlife are happier thanks to YOU and the generous efforts of the sponsors, businesses, watershed organizations, Girl Scout and Boy Scout Troops, school groups, municipalities and community members who make the event possible. Thank you!

News From Rotary International

Rotary announces US $96.5 million to end polio

EVANSTON, Ill. (August 15, 2018) — Rotary today announced nearly $100 million in grants to support the global effort to end polio, a vaccine-preventable disease that once paralyzed hundreds of thousands of children each year.

The announcement comes as Nigeria marks two years without any reported cases of wild poliovirus, following four reported cases in 2016.

“The fact that no new cases of wild poliovirus have been detected in Nigeria points to the improved surveillance and rapid response protocols Rotary and its Global Polio Eradication Initiativepartners have established, particularly in insecure and inaccessible areas,” said Michael K. McGovern, chair of Rotary’s International PolioPlus Committee. “While this progress is promising, it’s time to redouble our efforts so we can continue to maintain the political and financial support necessary to end polio for good.” Read more by clicking here
