The 2019 Pie Event raised more than $3,450, about $350 less than last year. We promised Lebanon Interact 10% of our net = $345, leaving us $3,105 for PolioPlus. Together with the Gates Foundation’s 2:1 match, Lebanon Rotary will be donating another $9,315 to Global Eradication of Polio!
We appreciated the support of your Interactors at the event!
Event attendance dropped from 390 to 204. A higher percentage of tickets (44% vs38%) assigned to Rotarians this year were presented at the door.
We made and purchased more than 200 pies and had 50 left over. We sold 17 whole pies. The remainder were donated to The Haven and Listen.
94% of tickets in 2018 and 81% in 2019 were redeemed between 9:30 and 11:30 AM. Oddly, 35 folks came in after 11:30 AM in 2018, and 36 in 2019.
Why the lower attendance? Change in venue? Change in date? Hanover Rotary’s pancake breakfast the same day (we learned AFTER we’d scheduled ours)? Lent? First nice day of spring for yard work?
Consider asking DHMC Infectious Disease Section to partner with us in someway to highlight the importance of immunizations.
2019 Thank You Ad will be published in the Valley news to thanks our various sponsors.
Committee believes we should continue this event in 2020. Discussed doing it during World Immunization Week in late April. Even if we don't do it the same week, frame the event more broadly around immunizations, but profits will still go to polio.
Don MacMeekin reminded us that we will have a booth at the Farmer's Market from now until Brew Fest. It will be an opportunity for us to showcase Rotary in Lebanon, to share info about our upcoming golf tournament, and Brew Fest. Farmers Markets are on Thursdays from 3 PM to approx. 7 PM. Two Rotarians are needed each market. See Don to Sign-up now!
Epilogos Charities Clothing Drive
Our clothing collection drive for Epilogos was very successful. Bruce thanked all members who contributed to the drive. A representative from Epilogos will be coming to give us an update in the near future.
Paul Harris Fellowship Presentation
Ron Bedell had the honor of presenting Paul Boucher with his Paul Harris plus 5 pin. Thank you Paul for being such a strong supporter of the Rotary Foundation.
Joy Gobin reported on the Interact symposium held at the Rotary District 7850 Conference in Sherbrooke. We had students from Lebanon High School and Mascoma High School attend. The sessions were facilitated by Rotaractors, one from Toronto, two from UVM and one from Norwich University. They had sessions on team building and leadership. Special speakers talked to them about cyber security; Rotary Peace Scholarships; and Fund Raising. They participated in the service project to fill an sew comfort pillows for cancer patients. Joy shared that the Lincoln-Woodstock Interact Club is a community based club and not a school based club. This club holds a thank you dinner for first responders every year. They now have over $30,000 in their bank account.
Our Golf Tournament (The Bedell Classic) will be held on May 23, 2019.Continue to ask golfers to play, consider where you can ask for sponsors, many raffle prizes are needed too. Bruce reported we have 15 to 16 teams, and we hope to have at least 18! We have 12 hole sponsors committed hope we can find at least 15 more. Keep rounding up raffle prizes. Set-up will begin at 8:30 AM and registration will open at 9:30 AM.
Brew Festwill be on Saturday, August 24, 2019 on the Green in Lebanon..
Are you a part of one of the planning teams?
If no, please offer to help plan one of the events!

Rotary International New
Rachel Brooks
Recipient of a Rotary Peace Scholarship!!
Each year, Rotary awards up to 100 fully funded fellowships for dedicated leaders from around the world to study at one of our peace centers.
Through academic training, practice, and global networking opportunities, the Rotary Peace Centers program develops the fellows into experienced and effective catalysts for peace. The fellowships cover tuition and fees, room and board, round-trip transportation, and all internship and field-study expenses.
In just over a decade, the Rotary Peace Centers have trained more than 1,200 fellows. Many of them now serve as leaders at international organizations or have started their own foundations.
Marilyn Bedell is delighted to announce that we have a new recipient of a Rotary Peace Scholarship. Her name is Rachel Brooks. She will begin her studies in the Fall at Bradford University in England.
Rachel is a first generation college graduate who came from a low income family. She worked multiple jobs to put herself through school. Currently she works for the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College as a Program Manager for Business, Government and Society.
In her application she talked about her experiences teaching English in Korea. But these two paragraphs in her application that made me believe she will do well in the program: [Quote]
“As the child of a Christian, conservative construction worker and an atheist, liberal, underemployed mother, I learned the importance of mediation at an early age and am committed to mediation on a global scale.
My loved ones are drawn to military service. That is a worthy path, but my call has always been peace and diplomacy. I am enthralled by local community-building, poverty reduction, and global peacekeeping efforts and am ready to thrive and, more importantly, help those around me thrive wherever we are planted.
