Next Board Meeting
Our Next Rotary Club of Lebanon Board meeting will be December 14, 2021 at 5:30 PM on Zoom.
Prior to a more serious discussion about Covid-19 in the Upper Valley, there was talk of backseat drivers, driving up I-89 on Friday during the first measurable snow with several drivers off the road. Hockey practice and the requirement in Lebanon that kids and coaches, and others wear masks on and off the ice.
With news of an increase in cases of Covid-19 in the Upper Valley, our premeeting talk centered around the cases at Harvest Hill. Bill Secord and Hank Clarke asked Cindy Jerome how things were going at Harvest Hill. Cindy reported that 10 people came off restrictions today, 21 will come off restrictions tomorrow. All past residents who tested positive will be tested again. The residents seem to be recovering. A few hospitalized, a few received monoclonal antibodies. All infections are breakthroughs on fully vaccinated people – they assume a visitor came in and took off their mask resulting in aerosolized droplets that spread the virus. There are 72 residents at Harvest Hill and another ~80- at the Woodlands with no cases there yet. The burden on nurses is heavy: they are suited up in protective gear and are taking over in-room jobs that many others used to do in order to limit access. It’s exhausting and a real drain. Administrators also are pitching in working extra hours to help. A good reminder for all of us to do our part and encourage vaccinations + boosters...and PLEASE WEAR A MASK...Thank you.
Meeting Review
President Hank Clark asked Marilyn Bedell to ring the bell to call the meeting to order at 12:02 PM.
President Hank decided he would be the one to recite the 4-Way Test this week. He was was spot on.
Returning to Zoom Meetings
A major topic discussed was the need to return to all Zoom Meeting until case counts in the Upper Valley are on the decline. Cindy Jerome noted that besides the high infection rate, local hospitals are overwhelmed. She also pointed out that not all members were following strictly the APD guidelines: We were to only remove mask when actively eating or drinking. Some of us didn't wear masks while singing, and while in line to get food. A good reminder that we must follow the infection disease precautions when we return to Harvest Hill. We will look forward to getting back to meeting in person.
See below for the recap of other business topics.
We had a few happy dollars, which are captured below.
The meeting then adjourned at 12:46 PM by ringing our bell and reciting our Rotary motto:

Election for Charities Trustee — Bruce Pacht, Trustee's Chair
Bruce reminded us that there was a single nominee for the open position on the Charities board. The nominee is Rudy Fedrizzi. Rudy is currently serving the remainder of Melissa Moody's term which expires June 30, 2022. He will serve a three-year term from July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2025.
Bruce made the motion to accept this nomination. The motion was seconded by John Yacavone. The motion passed in the affirmative unanimously.
Food Drives for Listen — Tim Guaraldi
The first event was held last Saturday, 11/27 in Hanover, the morning after the snowstorm. A little slower in the morning but then had some traffic later. There’s far less traffic at the Hanover store than at Centerra. We received $160+ in cash donations and about 200 lbs. of food and personal items. In comparison, at Centerra, Tim usually fills a pickup bed with food – this load could be handled in the Subaru. Listen was very appreciative. Our second food drive will be on December 18 from 10 AM to 1 PM. Tim reminded volunteers to dress for the weather as we will be outdoors. Masks required. Here is the sign-up List for December 18, 2021
Membership Updates – Hank Clarke
Ask someone to come to a meeting. As of now, Janet’s associate at work, Marie Ledoux-Howe is pending membership, as is Ryan Tremblay.
We have developed a folding business card to give out to folks when talking about Rotary. We will be ordering 500 of them. Marilyn displayed the excellently-designed and very informational card. Everyone received a copy via email. Marilyn Bedell will try to figure out a way to get some of the cards to everyone now that we won't be able to meet in person.
The Rotary Foundation - Giving Totals as or 2 December - Ron Bedell and Phil Rentz
During Rotary Foundation Month, $3,500 was raised for TRF. 20 people will receive an additional 100 points from the Club and one person from Marilyn and Ron’s point stash. Ron stated he doubts that we will be #1 in the District this year as Middlebury has already given $21,000.
Update on Rotary Road Signs
John Yacavone: Proposed sign design was circulated to the BOD; John received one response which allowed him to decide that everyone loves it. Marilyn has worked with Russell-Hampton. What’s left in Lebanon are 4 signs with inaccurate information on them. Bruce P and JPY drove around looking for locations not on NH state property where the signs could be seen when entering the city. We have 6 new locations plus the existing 4 = 10 signs.
JPY plans to meet with City manager Shaun after the new year. John believes the City will provide the poles, we will affix the signs, then the City will install. If that’s not the way it goes, the process will take longer. We have $1,000 approved in the operating budget from two years ago. We hope to install signs when the frost goes out.

Happy Dollars, Announcements and Concerns
Per Hank Clarke's request, Will Koppenheffer displayed Lucy (his dog) who was back on her couch.
Cindy Jerome: Son turned 20 Tuesday this week, sophomore in college,. His study buddy (now more than that) has invited her son to her parent's apartment in New York City for the Christmas holiday. He was cautioned to bring dress clothes for a fine restaurant and a Broadway show, so Cindy took him shopping.
JoAnn Lemieux’s partner, Phil’s, niece had a baby girl last week. JoAnn posted a photo and then was told to take it down because they hadn’t announced it yet. They got married last year. JoAnn will pay a $5 happy dollars for this announcement.
Tim Guaraldi has another granddaughter as of 11/21. Trina was dropped off at the hospital and had a 30-minute labor to deliver Belle in the warm weather of Texas.
Tim Guaraldi: Anna shot a 12-point buck on Thanksgiving Day. To add insult to injury, Tim had to retrieve the animal, but Anna did the butchering. “We don’t mount the heads,” Tim said., “Just the skull with horns. We don’t like eyeballs looking down at us.”
Hank Clarke: When we were in Norway with ski writers, the town celebrated by presenting each of us with one-half a sheep’s head. Luckily his did not have an eye to stare at him.
