Subject: Please Read: LISTEN Community Dinner Changes re COVID-19
On behalf of all of us as LISTEN, thank you for your tremendous commitment to providing meals to so many of our neighbors through the Community Dinner Program. Your impact is felt each and every day as we serve 80-100 people six nights a week. Together we are changing lives.
The safety and well-being of our Upper Valley community is LISTEN Community Services’ utmost priority. In light of COVID-19, we are following advice by health professionals and other authorities, and taking many precautions to keep our customers, clients and staff safe. This includes increased sanitation of all of our facilities.
Today, I am sharing news of upcoming changes to our Community Dinner Program and asking for your continued efforts to cook and serve these meals. Starting on Monday, March 16, the community dinners served in White River Junction will only be available on a “to go” basis and our dining hall will not be open for diners to congregate. From 5-5:30pm on Monday-Saturdays in White River Junction, we welcome anyone to come by and pick up a meal that will be packaged for you to take away. The Monday dinner in Canaan is cancelled until further notice.
In light of these changes, LISTEN still needs your help to come cook meals, prepare take away containers, and ensure the kitchen is ready for the next evening’s activities. Your assistance is critical to ensure we can continue to provide food and nourishment for so many of our neighbors. Thank you for your continued support to do so. If for some reason, you are unable to come, please contact Valerie Thompson.
For almost 50 years, LISTEN has been on the front-line in our community to provide vital support for neighbors who are facing crisis. We are currently assessing our ability to meet an anticipated increase in demand for our food pantry as well as housing and heating assistance for community members in need. All charitable contributions to support these direct services are needed at this time. Thank you in advance for helping us to be able to respond as quickly as possible.
Also, as of today, LISTEN’s stores are open for business as usual and we are still taking donations of gently-used items. We will continue to keep you posted with any changes to the operations of our programs and stores.
A community is only as safe as its most vulnerable populations. And the character of the Upper Valley has always reflected a strong support for all of our neighbors, especially in times of distress. From all of us at LISTEN, we are grateful for you.
P. S. If you know someone who could use help, please have them contact LISTEN at (603) 448-4553.
