Our speakers today were five dynamic students from Lebanosn High School. They were selected to participate in the Take Flight program at Lebanon High School.

James Strout - James is a member of the Civil Air Patrol and has a long time interest in aviation. He hopes to work in a field related to aviation in the future.

Tomas Kennelly shared that this is a capstone to his high school education. He will be a senior next year. He will only be able to work hands on for one year, but believes this experience will help him to use all of the education he has learned to-date.

Solan O'Connor has alway had an interest in NASSA and Space Ex. He is excited to be a part of a program that will build the plane and will get to see it fly for the first time.

Rebecca Ball wants to be a naval aviator. She see this course as laying a foundation for all she will need to learn to excel as a Naval aviator. She is looking forward to working with community mentors.

Each student had about three minutes to tell us all about the program.
This program will inspire students to work together on a complicated and demanding project. Hopefully, the experience will open pathways to careers in aviation and aerospace. It will be a project that instills pride.
Fourteen students from grades 10, 11 and 12 will help build the plane. As seniors graduate, new students will join the team. It will be a 2 period class that will earn each student three college level credits in math, science and engineering.
The build will be done in partnership with the Aviation Museum of NH that is located at the Manchester Airport. A company, called Tango Flight, Inc. in New Mexico provides the kit for the build. Don Weyant the founder of Tango Flight, Inc. visited Lebanon High School on January 23rd, and will return in August to help orient mentors/volunteers who will be working with the students.
Don Weyant: Aviation is so integral to Dan Weyant’s life that he lives in an airpark outside Georgetown, Texas, with his wife Karen. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in computer science from North Carolina State University, he began his career as a software consultant specializing in user-interface design, he left the industry to start engineering programs in Austin high schools. Weyant flies an RV-9A that he and his wife built and a 1946 J-3 Cub that belonged to his grandfather. He is the co-founder of Tango Flight.
There are 40 schools in the United States doing plane builds in 2024/2025.
Currently a 3-bay garage at Lebanon High School is being converted into the "classroom" where the build will take place.
The plane kit will contain 50,000 +/- parts. Once completed it will be a a two-seat RV-12iS light sport aircraft. A license pilot will be the person ground testing then taking the plane on its first flight once approved by the FAA.
To-date, $213,000 has been raised for the build. The total cost will be $250,000. They are now actively seeking additional funds from the community for the build. The announce they have secured three very large donations. Jeanne Shaheen help secure $90,000, the Byrne Foundation has contributed $50,000 with another sizeable donation from the Couch Family Foundation.

Jeff Rapsis from the NH Aviation Museum, joined the group of students from LHS to share information about the Aviation Museum of NH and their role in the project. Ernst Oidtmann played the piano and led us in singing our Rotary welcome song. We then sang I've Been Working on the Railroad substituting GOLF for the word Railroad in honor of the Bedell Classic.

After lunch, Ron Michaud introduced Bonnie Robinson, LHS Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment. Bonnie then introduced Amy Allen, Superintendent of Schools for SAU#88, Jeff Rapsis from the Aviation Museum of NH, and the students from Lebanon High School who spoke about Take Flight. Charities Budget: Don't forget to vote yea or nay to approve the 2024/2025 Charitie Budget.
Attached you will please find the 2024-25 budget adopted at their April meeting by Trustees of the Rotary Club of Lebanon, NH Charities, Inc. In addition to the proposed budget, the document includes the adopted budget for 2023-24, actual figures to date, and additional projected expenditures through June 30, 2024.
Charities’s bylaws require that the Club’s annual charitable budget be endorsed by a vote of Club members. Accordingly, at our regular club meeting on May 9, time has been set aside for members to comment before voting begins on adoption of the budget. If you have questions or comments between now and that meeting, please send them to the Trustee chair (brucepacht67@gmail.com) so that we may address issues in advance of the meeting.
Voting will be electronic, with votes to be emailed to the Trustee chair starting from the close of the Rotary Club meeting on May 9 and ending at the close of the Rotary Club meeting on May 23. A majority of members voting is required for adoption. According to Club bylaws, in order to establish a quorum, at least one-third of members must cast a vote (actively choosing yes, no or abstention). At present, we have 36 members in good standing.
You will note that all funds allocated in the 2023-24 year were not expended. While accumulating a surplus year to year allows us occasionally to consider very large projects (such as the 100th anniversary Rotary Harmony Park), Charities Trustees encourage all members to consider submitting requests for use of the charitable funds raised by Lebanon Rotarians. Our charitable funds exist to achieve the vision and service aims of our Club. It is our members who decide both the large and small service projects on which we will embark.
Please remember this: Everything in Rotary begins with a single member having a passionate idea that sparks commitment from others. If you have a great idea for a major or minor service project, whether community, youth, international or otherwise, share your passion with other Rotarians. If together you conceive of a viable project, Rotary is the vehicle to bring your thoughts into action.

Lebanon High School/Youth Service Announcement
Norah Burns has been placed into a Rotary short term exchange in Italy this summer. She will be in Rome and Florence for 3 weeks and then the family she is staying with has a daughter, Sophia, the same age and she will return for 3 weeks to stay with Norah and her family. Sophia's brother did a Rotary exchange in the past. Their parents are Rotarians.
Norah said that she and Sophia will come to present at either Aug. 15 or 22 meeting.
She is so excited! I will share more info soon!
Norah has also been accepted as a RYLA counselor as well as Lavi Halwawala. They are both excited to be participating at RYLA and to represent Lebanon Rotary!

Ahmad Hadari is back from a offshore technology and carbon capture conference. He reflected that many of the speakers were not from the USA. Thus the program today reassured him that we do have students interested in STEM fields.
Ron Michaud thanked Bill Babineau and Willy Koppenheffer for staying connected to Jon Blodget. Willy and Bill have dinner with Jon frequestly.
Ernst Oidtmann share that he and Bruce Bergeron moved many boxes to storage for Jon Blodgett. Former Rotarian, Jimmy Shibles is helping Jon sell his home and has been helping with some home repairs. Ernst will soon be off to Munich to see family for 3 weeks. He will have a family reunion in France too during his trip. He will be back for changeover then will be off to British Columbia for another event. Then back to be our 2024/2025 President.

Collections are 9-Noon in Lebanon, July 14, and Sept 28. I would need 2-3 people to interview attendees and direct them where to go. Shifts can be the full 3 hours or I can do shorter shifts – as you know, the busiest time is the first hour or so.

A few volunteers are needed at the Food Pantry to open bags and stock shelves. Arrive anytime from 9:00 – 4:30, Monday thru Friday for the next 2 weeks. Stay as long as you like. Rotary International Convention in Calgary, Alberta, Canada
The Rotary International Convention will be in Calgary in 2025. Marilyn Bedell has been asked to be the promotions chair for Rotary Zone 32. Ron shared that he has been to Calgary twice for the Calgary Stampede. Calgary is a great city in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies. The conventions will be June 21-25, 2025
This is the only Rotary International Convention that
will be held in North America for the next few years.
So, start planning. The Calgary committee has many
exciting events and pre & post trips planned for the
convention that will be revealed in detail on June 25th.
If you register during this year's Singapore Convention you
will receive a special rate of only $425 per person. That
will last only five days, so you must act quickly. The
dates are June 25 through June 29, 2024. After that
the rates will go up starting June 30, 2024.
