Meeting of March 28, 2019
Recorder Hank Clarke

The Current's editor this week missed another club meeting while visiting his son and family in New Mexico and taking a side trip to San Diego to visit his ailing Best Man. I imagine that the drama has been much more intense in Albuquerque than in the Dwinell room this week, but who knows what Paul Tierney had to say? In tribute to Will Koppenheffer's weekly quiz, we managed a visit to the Petroglyphs National Monument outside of Albuquerque. The closest we came to a string-of-pearls attraction was to travel for a stretch on the iconic Route 66.
The meeting was called to order by President Elect Liss Mooney at 7:00.
Happy Dollars:
  • Willy bragged about his daughter finishing grad school with a job offer from the Chicago Public Schools.
  • Cam bragged about Laurie Harding's receiving honors as the non-profit volunteer of the year.
Garland Hoskin presented Steve Whitman with Steve's fifth Paul Harris and noted that Steve has committed to donating $100 a month to The Foundation. Garland also reminded the club members about becoming Foundation Benefactors.
Coming Up:
  • President Steve reminded everyone about the "Northern Stage behind the Stage Tour." The tour will be on 4/12, not 4/11. A signup sheet was passes around.
  • Tim Guaraldi went over the Pie Fest dates, etc., again.
  • Bruce Pacht let everyone know that several Lebanon Interact members will be helping out at the Pie Fest.
  • Hank Clarke reminded those signed up that the 4/9 Listen Dinner is coming up.
Speaker was Steve Silver of Strategies for College.
Steve talked about College Admissions. Steve has worked at Lafayette and Dartmouth in admissions; he now works for Strategies for College, a consulting firm that helps pair high school seniors with colleges that would be right for them. He talked a little about the current scandal and how he is appalled by it. Steve noted that “Legacy” students receive little or no preference in admissions.
Concluding business:

Card Draw, Bruce Pacht, Three of Clubs

Car wash, Garland Hoskin (which car will he get washed?)

Next week’s speaker is Jerry Little, the NH Banking Commissioner
