Call to Order by President Ernst: 12:04.
Four-Way Test led by Phil Rentz.
Songs led by President Ernst: “Rotary Welcome Song” and “Auld Lang Syne”
Guests: Phil Hill, Lackore Stella Greg, Sarah Reilly, Matt Locker, Linda Oidtmann, and Daniel and Train Himmelstein.
Thought of the Day: President Ernst recently visited a museum and stole a painting because his wife had told him to take a picture.
Program: A concert with Ernst Oidtmann on the piano and Matt Locker on the clarinet—Rossini’s “Introduction Theme, and Variations for Clarinet and Orchestra.”
The Kilton Library children’s book given in recognition of Matt Locker’s musical performance was Tala Learns to Siva by Kealani Netane and Dung Ho:
A lovingly empowering story about finding courage and strength in your family, history, and community through a traditional and cherished Samoan dance, taualuga. Written by debut author, Kealani Netane, and illustrated by New York Times bestselling illustrator, Dung Ho.
Tala wishes that she could dance the traditional Samoan dance, the taualuga, just like her Aunty Sina. But Tala's legs are too bouncy, her arms are too stiff, and she doesn't have Aunty's 'glow' when she dances. When Tala prepares to perform at her Grandma's birthday, she freezes on the stage. Will she find the strength and inspiration to help her dance?
Newcomer Kealani Netane crafts a heartwarming story about finding your inner strength through the love and guidance of your family. New York Times bestselling illustrator Dung Ho's cheerful colors and sweet characters bring this loving story to life, making this the perfect gift for little ones who are learning how to follow their hearts and make their own paths.
Charities Update from Bruce Pacht: He will be sending out a chart showing the past five-and-a-half years of giving (the history of the newly formed Charities as a non-profit). Bruce remined the club that all members of the club are invited to attend any Charities Board meeting.
Food Drive Update from Tim Guaraldi: The food drive collected 721 pounds of non-perishables, the best collection ever, including $600 in cash. Three Interactors from Lebanon High School participated.
Happy Dollars/Brags: Ron Michaud bragged about Bill Babineau’s role as a soloist in the last Holiday follies held by the club. Tim Guaraldi bragged about the successful Christmas party and noted that the most popular gift was a tissue box in the shape of an Easter Island face issuing tissue from out its nose.
Linda Oidtmann bragged about her niece’s being a soloist with the Munich Bach Orchestra. John Yacavone drew the Queen of Spades, and Dan Nash won the car wash, which he promptly gave away to another club member (trucks never need car washing).
