The school year is winding down and that means it's time to hand out the personalized 1st Grade books. To do this we are looking for at least 12 volunteers. It only takes 45 minutes at each school.
The plan is to hand out the books:
The Mt Lebanon School in West Lebanon, book distribution will be Monday June 2nd at 9 am.
The Hanover Street School in Lebanon, will be Tuesday, June 3rd at 8:30 am [NOTE THIS IS A DAY AND TIME CHANGE]
Let Bruce Bergeron know if you can help...Watching the joy of children reading a book made for each of them is truly one of our best and most rewarding projects.
Bruce indicated we have enough help for Monday but we are looking for a few more folks to help on Tuesday (Hanover Street). Let Bruce Bergeron if you want to be added to the list for Tuesday. Thanks in advance for all who are helping on Monday and Tuesday...Though hope we can find a few more to help on Tuesday.
FYI, friends and family are welcome to help us at both schools.

Bedell Classic Golf Tournament
Our next fun outing will be Wednesday. It's time to find out who will be able to volunteer for the golf tournament on Wednesday, June 4th. Below are the options for volunteering. Members if you haven't done this already reply back to Bruce Bergeron and indicated which of the option(s) pertain to you. Friends of Lebanon Rotary, if you would like to help...just let Bruce know.
For some of you it will include 2 or 3 options. All of these events take place at Eastman Golf Links in Grantham.
1) Tuesday June 3rd (2:30 pm to 5 pm): Volunteer (Set Up)
2) Wednesday June 4th (8 am to 10 pm): Volunteer (Set Up, Registration, Greeters)
3) Wednesday June 4th (10 am to 4 pm): Volunteer (hole-one-spotters, and other activities in and around the clubhouse)
4) Wednesday June 4th (10 am to 4 pm): Playing in the tournament
5) I cannot help either day
Again Fellow Rotarians, if you haven’t done this already, please take 3 minutes to email Bruce with the number(s) that pertain to you. Bruce would like to have 100% of our club members to RSVP yeas or nay.

Peter was a member of the Lebanon-Riverside Rotary Club in 1994-1995. He shared he was president the year of the airshow when two members of the airshow were tragically killed in a mid-air accident. He shared, "this ripped the heart out of the Rotary Club of Lebanon-Riverside. It wasn't long after this that he left the club when he moved to Claremont and began traveling over 200 days each year...His schedule kept him from Rotary. Currently he is President of the Leadership Council for Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (Osher). Previously he was the chair of the finance committee, and recruited Hank Clarke to join the committee. Hank arranged for Osher to invite us to see their offices and classrooms, and to have Peter give us an overview of Osher's history.
In 1990, Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Dartmouth (Osher at Dartmouth), Osher is a volunteer, non-credit continuing education program for adults. It was established in 1990 by Charter from Dartmouth College under the Office of the Provost. Originally called ILEAD (Institute for Lifelong Education at Dartmouth), the name was changed when ILEAD joined the Osher network of Lifelong Learning Institutes. For 30 years, Osher we housed at the Dartmouth Outing Club (DOC) in Hanover. The lost there home in Hanover when the Dartmouth Class of 1996 in raised 2 million dollars to remodel DOC and Osher had to relocate. They found their new home in Lebanon.
In 1991 the first two courses were offered, one about Hawthorne's novel TheScarlet Letter; and the other was focused on healthcare in the USA.
Osher isn't a degree granting organization. It is an enrichment program. There are no tests, but some courses may have homework assignments (often reading) to help make discussions and the class content more meaningful.
We gathered between 11:30 and 12 Noon at Osher Lifelong Learning at Dartmouth (Osher) office at 1 Court Street in downtown Lebanon.
Our thanks to Jake's for providing us with sandwiches, chips, pizza, cookies, sparkling water, and water for lunch.

We recited the 4-way Test under the direction of Bruce Bergeron.
Marilyn Bedell provided a short overview of the history of the Rotary Club of Lebanon.

Rotary Anniversaries: Steve Whitman, 54 year on June 1st; Bruce Bergeron and John Yacavone share their 49th year Rotary Anniversary on June 1st; and Angela Nelson on June 1st will have been a member for 8 years.
Peter Paquette welcomed us to Osher. Peter is now president of the Leadership Council at Osher. Peter shared information about Osher as our program today. He was supported by staff member, Lisa King who is the program director. See info about Peter's presentation above.
We forewent our happy/sad dollars and raffles.

2025 Brew Fest: Planning is underway for Brew Fest! It will be on Saturday, August 30th at Colburn Park in Lebanon. We hope everyone who can will be there to volunteer, and work to find sponsors for the event. Tickets will be available on EventBrite. The Brew Fest Committee walked the park on Friday afternoon. They decided we would not enlarge our footprint in the park. We will continue to use 1/2 of the park. Porta potties have been reserved. We will have two banks for porta potties this year with two handicapped accessible units.
Styrofoam Collection: Next date, October 4, 2025 in WRJ. Place and time to be determined.

From Celeste Herbert, Rotary Foundation Major Gifts Officer
I (Marilyn Bedell) thought this message I received from my Endowment Major Gifts partner at the Rotary Foundation may be of interest to my fellow Rotarians. Celeste provided follow-up to a meeting of District Endowment Major Gift Advisors, of which I am one. From Celeste:
There were some great questions asked about the ways Rotary aligns its investment policies with our stated mission. I’ve therefore also included an excerpt from our current Investment Policy document that answers some of the questions asked. You can find some great information...at this link: https://www.rotary.org/en/rotary-investments.
Another question asked involved the percentage of overhead costs that Rotary incurs each year, and I’ve thus also included our latest Fact Card where you can clearly see the nuances of our expenses; the Annual Report is another great resource for such info. While even Charity Navigator removed an administrative expense ratio from its annual rating system in 2023 (they previously suggested that under 35% of expenses should be spent on fundraising), members of Rotary can be proud not only of our organization’s transparency with details of our financial performance but also can be tremendously proud about the overall impact we continue to have with each dollar invested in our work year after year.
This publication is a printable/emailable version of the Endowment Fund Financial Report and can be a great piece to share with those who I consider “Foundation curious,” as it is designed to be a cultivation piece that covers the makeup of Rotary’s endowment, how the funds are invested, and how it supports the work that Rotary clubs and districts seek to do year after year. It’s even a nice piece to share with non-Rotarians
