Jennifer  Jones, Rotary International President-Nominee
At our meeting on December 16, 2020 we watched a video of RI President for 2022/2023, Jennifer Jones.  It was taped a the Randolph Sunrise Club meeting a couple of weeks ago.

Jennifer Jones
RI President for 2022/2023

Jennifer Jones is the President Nominee for Rotary International. She will serve as the first female president of Rotary International.
She grew up in Windsor, Ontario and has lived there most of her life.  She has shared that her introduction to community service was through Girl Scouts.

Professionally, she is the founder and president of Media Street Productions Inc., an award-winning media company in Windsor.
She joined Rotary in 1997.  Since that time, her husband, Nick, her brother and sister-in-law have joined Rotary.  She is still working to get one more brother to join Rotary.  Jennifer and her mother belong to one club, her father is in another, and her brother and sister-in-law started a new Rotary Club in Ontario.

A current Rotary Foundation trustee, Jones has served as our Rotary as RI vice president, director, training leader, committee chair, moderator, and district governor. She played a lead role in Rotary’s rebranding effort by serving as chair of the Strengthening Rotary’s Advisory Group. She is the co-chair of the End Polio Now Countdown to History Campaign Committee, which aims to raise $150 million for polio eradication efforts.
From RI - As the first woman to be nominated to be president, Jones understands how important it is to follow through on Rotary’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Statement. Jones was quoted as saying, “I believe that diversity, equity, and inclusion … begins at the top and for us to realize growth in female membership and members under the age of forty — these demographics need to see their own reflection in leadership, I will champion double-digit growth in both categories while never losing sight of our entire family.”

Her talk focused on the importance of service and fellowship; our ability to adapt to changing times...finding our own north star; finding value in the work we can do through Rotary; our number #1 priority the eradication of polio, and how Nigerian Rotarian Tunji Funsho was selected to be one of Time Magazine's 100 most influential people for 2020.

If you missed the meeting, you can play the video at the link below.  Jennifer begins her message at 8:26 minutes and play to 20:40 Minutes (the beginning for Q&A.

Food for thought, a quote from Jennifer Jone's brother that exemplifies the mission of Rotary, " In order to live in a civil society, you have to build it."
The speaker book for Jennifer Jones is Magnificent Homespun Brown: A Celebration by Samara Cole Doyon and illustrated by Kaylani Juanita.

It's a celebration of a self-confident young girl happy in her own brown skin.

Told by a succession of exuberant young narrators, Magnificent Homespun Brown is a story -- a song, a poem, a celebration -- about feeling at home in one’s own beloved skin.

With vivid illustrations by Kaylani Juanita, Samara Cole Doyon sings a carol for the plenitude that surrounds us and the self each of us is meant to inhabit. full color.

A note was sent to Jennifer letting here know we have done this.  She wrote:

Dear Marilyn,

Great to hear from you and thank you for sharing this with me.

Wishing you a very joyful and safe holiday season.

Hugs, Jennifer

COMMUNICATION, COLLABORATION AND PRESENTATION WORKSHOP
featuring
HOLLETTEARLE
January 16, 2021 at 9 AM to 10:30 AM

Rotary District 7850 is pleased to announce a free Workshop from HollettEarle designed for business and community leaders on Communication, Collaboration and Presentation skills.  Writer-Actor-Directors and alumni of The Second City improv comedy troupe, Shari Hollett and Chris Earle have been teaching communication, collaboration and presentation skills for over 20 years to corporate, government and non-profit clients across North America. As long-time directors and actors in theatre and comedy, they have developed their own special brand of workshops - using their performing and improvisation “know how” to create a fun, challenging, and invaluable experience for your group or business. With improvisation as their foundation, these workshops enhance existing skills, and develop new ones that help take your team to the next level.

“We are thrilled to have HollettEarle offer this engaging and fun workshop on communication, collaboration and presentation skills to our fellow Rotarians and to the public.  Shari & Chris’s workshop will teach skills that can benefit for-profit and non-profit business leaders alike in this COVID and post-COVID climate,” noted Rotary 7850 District Governor Jamie Milne.

December 2, 2020

Dear Friends of the Hanover Rotary Club,

Thank you for your past support of the Hanover Rotary Club's Auction Gala.  Due to the COVID pandemic we were not able to have an auction in 2020, but we are writing to let you know about our current efforts to support our community during this difficult time.

For decades holiday shoppers in Hanover heard the sound of Rotarians ringing sleigh bells as they walked along Main Street. Since 2000, the bell ringers of the Hanover Rotary Club raised over $100,000 for LISTEN Community Services and the Heating Helpers program. And Heating Helpers DOES make a difference!  Last year LISTEN provided 400 households in the Upper Valley with $130,000 in heating assistance.  This year, with the COVID pandemic, fewer people will be out on the streets of Hanover.  Yet the number of families needing heating assistance is likely to increase!

The Hanover Rotary Club has the ideal solution to this problem: Virtual Bell Ringing! It’s now possible to donate to LISTEN’s Heating Helpers program from the comfort of your home!  Just visit our GoFundMe page to donate:  https://charity.gofundme.com/o/en/campaign/fuel-assistance-listen

Our 62 club members have filled the pot with $13,000 already and we’re challenging the community to match that amount.  If we get there we’ll be able to provide 80 families with warm homes this winter!

To see our Club members and friends doing their Virtual Bell Ringing please visit this YouTube playlist: Bell ringing videos

You can also donate via Venmo at "HR-Charities" or send a check to Hanover Rotary Charities P.O. Box 381, Hanover, NH 03755.

Thank you for your support of Hanover Rotary and LISTEN!

Paul Tierney shared that he received a note from Listen saying that they have an anonymous donor willing to match donations 2:1.  Bruce reported that Charities received an appeal from Listen’s executive director which will be discussed at Charities’ next meeting

  • Update on Poker Room — John Yacavone
John wrote to NH poker room contact re: surge of COVID-19 wrote and said that unless the governor tells them to close, they will stay open.

She said she’d send John the paperwork in December; it has to be done within 90 days.  John needs a copy of the 501(c) letter which Marilyn said she’d supply.

Tom McGonis, now a Lion, called about the poker room.  Knowing that an applicant must put up $2,500 was a surprise to Tom.  He said they have 20 members, with a few showing up to Zoom meetings.  They received a new club charter in March, 2020.

Rotary Foundation receives highest rating from Charity Navigator for 13th consecutive year

By

For the 13th consecutive year, The Rotary Foundation has received the highest rating — four stars — from Charity Navigator, an independent evaluator of charities in the U.S.

The Foundation earned the recognition for adhering to sector best practices and executing its mission in a financially efficient way, demonstrating both strong financial health and commitment to accountability and transparency. Only one percent of the organizations Charity Navigator evaluates have received 13 consecutive 4-star evaluations.

"Your achievement and 4-star rating will enhance your organization’s fundraising and public relations efforts,” says Michael Thatcher, president and chief executive officer of Charity Navigator. "This exceptional designation sets the Foundation apart from its peers and demonstrates to the public its trustworthiness."

The rating reflects Charity Navigator's assessment of how the Foundation uses donations, sustains its programs and services, and practices good governance and openness.
