APD Lifecare is excited to welcome the Lebanon Rotary Club to The Woodlands next Thursday, August 12th, for our noon meeting. At the same time, the rapidly rising COVID-19 transmission rates cause concern. Today, the State of New Hampshire designated Grafton County as having “Substantial” rates of transmission. That is the highest level.
Accordingly, we are asking every Rotarian to present their Vaccination Record Card at the door, proving that they are fully vaccinated. A clear photograph of your Card, on paper or on your cell phone, will suffice. We will also take your temperature. Cindy Jerome will be there to welcome you and check you in. Please plan to arrive between 11:45 (not earlier) and 12:00. Once cleared, you will go directly into the Dining Room. If you do not have your card, you’ll have to miss this in-person meeting.
If you feel unwell, in any way, please do not attend. COVID symptoms can be anything from nausea to headache to fever to loss of sense of smell.

August 19, 2021 at noon (On Zoom)
August 26, 2021 at noon (At Harvest Hill): Craig Henderson of Southwestern Community Services; they run a homeless shelter in Claremont. He will speak on homelessness in Sullivan/Cheshire Counties and NH in general, as well as a new program being developed by the state — the NH Emergency Rental Assistance Program.
We welcomed a visiting Rotarian, Robert Yudkin. Robert is visiting in Grantham from Texas. He is house sitting with his grand dog while his kids headed to the west coast. Robert is working on 32 years perfect attendance and he always like to try and make up meetings wherever he go. He is a past club president and an administrator for the Guerrero Rotary Eye/Dental clinic in Chihuahua, Mexico. The clinic has touched over 60,000 lives. Covid put some of the work on hold for 22 months, but they are ready to roll again. He invites members to consider joining one of their work teams. You don't have to medical background to help.
From a posting on the web:
The Guerrero Clinic provides eye, dental and other medical care to the indigent people within the state of Chihuahua and other parts of Mexico. It serves multiple populations including Mexican, Mennonite, and Tarahumara Indians.
It provides volunteer opportunities for medical and non-medical people, adults, students (high school age and up) and families. It is a great experience for parent/child or grandparent/child to share.
While this is a Rotary clinic, volunteers participate from other service organizations such as Lions clubs, health care organizations and the general public.

Brew Fest
Hank provided an update on our Brew Fest planning.
Hank talked to Shaun Mulholland, and despite the uptick in Covid-19 infections, at this moment in time, the City isn't planning to change public health measures for outdoor activities. We will request that only vaccinated patrons come to Brew Fest. The Brew Fest Committee has decided to move forward and hold Brew Fest.
He and Willie continue to work to make sure State and City regulatory requirements will have been met.
We believe we will have 30 brewers represented at our event.
Jim Damren continues to lead our efforts to get sponsors for Brew Fest. He provided some information at our in-person meeting, and followed up by sending information to everyone by email. All are requested to do what they can to get sponsors. Everyone is asked to see if they can't get at least one sponsor for the booklet that will be given to all participants. The booklet will describe the brewers, their beers, and provide information on how we use our funds to support project in Lebanon and around the globe. All ads need to be to Jim by August 13, 2021. Please ask sponsors for print-ready copy to be placed in the ad. If they are not able to do this, Betsey Child will do a more simplistic ad for the booklet. Congratulations to Ernst who secured Sable and Son as our Platinum sponsor.
John Yacavone reported that he has lined up Salt Hill and 110 Grill to provide food at the event. He is working to line up live music for the event.
If you are going to be in town for the Labor Day Holiday...WE NEED YOUR HELP. Even if you can only give us couple of hours. Even if you don't want to pour beer or fetch beer and ice, you can be assigned to sit at one of the exit points, and remind people they have to enter the event at the fountain in the park, and then cut of arm bands as individual leave our event.
If you haven't completed the doodle poll to let us know if you can or cannot help with Brew Fest, please do this now. Sign up at:
In the next week we will send you a JPEG copy of our poster and will ask you post it on your social media feeds to help us with advertising.
Jimmy Brock shared that he will be toasting Brew Fest September 4, 2021 at 4 PM from his home in Bermuda.
Presidents Picnic
Bruce Pacht and Tim Guaraldi shared memories of our picnic on Saturday, July 31, 2021 at Tim's home in Newport, NH. There was talk of Corn Hole, sitting by the firepit, the wonderful weather that was sandwiched between two torrential rain storms that flooded the area around Tim's pond and took out the walking bridges each time.
JoAnn Lemieux let us know that she couldn't come because of all of the flooding in Alstead.
Marilyn shared that Karen Clements had planned to come, but her husband Peter had a medical issue that will require surgery. She wrote, "Peter and I had every intention of coming. Peter had an urgent medical issue for which he is having surgery this Wednesday morning. I will be in Maine for the month of August caring for him. Karen"

Listen Community Dinners
Our next dinner is August 11, 2021. Marilyn thanked everyone who volunteered to help. We have a full cook team.
Bruce Bergeron will be asking someone on the Community Services Committee to take over the responsibility of making sure we have cook teams for all meals. This has been Hank's responsibility but we need to take this off his plate since he has a lot to do as president.
It is time for everyone to sign up for the meals between now and December. Please pick one or two days when you can help prepare meals. It is my bet you will come away knowing you have done a really good thing for our community.
This September 11th marks 20 years since the events of 9/11. To honor that day, its victims, and their loved ones, CATV welcomes anyone who would like to record their memories.
These brief video histories will air on CATV this September 11. They would form a permanent historical record to benefit our community.
Video tapings would take place in our studio at 1 Gifford Rd. in White River Junction the weeks of August 16-20 and August 23-27 at times to be determined. If a group would like to participate, the recordings could be done at your site.
There is no need to write a speech or memorize a statement—just speak from your heart.
I
f you would like to participate, please email George Spencer at george@catv8.org to set up a time.
Please share this email with people you work with and anyone else in the community.

Mark your calendar! Friday, August 13–Sunday, August 15
Things feel a bit different. It could be the longer, warmer days. It could be the increase in vaccinations (an important factor in our eventual reopening) coupled with a decrease in COVID restrictions. Either way, we are at a crossroads.
Inspired by the idea of literal and metaphorical crossroads, Lebanon Opera House proudly presents the FREE Nexus Music and Arts Festival in and around Colburn Park, extending to the pedestrian mall and the revitalized rail trail tunnel. Outdoor performances from regional touring artists, LOH’s community arts partners, and student-artists will be featured alongside displays of public art and al fresco dining—flashes of creativity and community at every turn. Necessarily, planning is being done with public health measures in mind.
We see Nexus as an important leadership opportunity; a chance to thank those who support LOH and the greater Lebanon arts community. A chance to demonstrate the impact of the arts on our local economy. Mark your calendar and plan to join the chorus of supporters who believe that the arts are worth celebrating!
Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, this family-friendly event is FREE and open to all. Please consider your own tax-deductible gift in support of Nexus. As a nonprofit organization, we acknowledge that every dollar raised makes a difference.

Editor’s note: Membership is the life blood of Rotary. Surveys have confirmed that members join because they want to connect with other people and take action to create lasting change. For Membership Month in August we have asked several experts to talk about how they reach out to prospective members, keep existing members engaged, and create an environment that allows new clubs to form and thrive. This is the first in that series.
Elizabeth Usovicz
By Elizabeth Usovicz, Rotary International Director, Zones 30 and 31
Rotary connections are powerful, for both current and future members. After 16 months of lockdown, online business and virtual Rotary meetings, I recently met a longtime client for lunch. The restaurant we chose was quiet that day, and the dining area was empty except for one table.
Our fellow diners were two young men of different races. They seemed to be talking about business as my client and I were seated at a nearby table. We didn’t focus on their conversation until our ears perked up like hyper-alert terriers when we heard one of them say, “Rotary.”
Expanding the conversation
My client is a past president of her Rotary club, and we both began to listen in on the young men’s conversation. One was explaining the motto of Rotary, Service Above Self, and the service projects of his local Rotary club. “I have to introduce myself,” I told my client excitedly. She laughed as I slid out of my chair and moved toward their table.
They looked up, surprised, when I approached them. “Excuse me,” I smiled. “My colleague and I heard you say “Rotary” and we wanted to introduce ourselves.” I pointed to my lapel pin. “We are both Rotary members too!”
Each One, Bring One – and beyond
As it turns out, one of the men, Jeff, is a member of the Rotary club of Lee’s Summit, Missouri. He was discussing Rotary with Jordan, a prospective member.
Jordan grinned in amazement at our Rotary connection, which happens every day for Rotary members across the globe. “Wow!” he said. “You mean people in Rotary just find each other like this?” My client, Jeff, and I each smiled. “We all serve,” I replied. “We are people from all backgrounds, all walks of life, and we all serve our communities.”
That brief exchange was a simple, yet powerful moment of Rotary pride and purpose for three Rotary members. For Jordan, it was an impressive example of the strength of the Rotary network and our capacity to connect people across communities.
Each one of us is a role model for growing Rotary
Since that lunch meeting, Jordan has visited Jeff’s club twice and is on the path to becoming a member. Jeff’s support of the Presidential Initiative, “Each One Bring One” prompted me to reach out to three prospective members.
What if each of us did the same? What if each of us encouraged the formation of a new club? By this time next year, our Rotary network and our capacity to connect people across the globe will be even more powerful. All we need to do, like Jeff, is to be a role model for Each One, Bring One. Find your Jordans and invite them to lunch.
