Assistant Governor Don MacMeekin opened Rotary District 7850's area speech contest and had the four contestants pick their order of speaking by lot. The speakers were Rosa Turinetti and Kayla Ball, senior Randolph Union High School students who were sponsored by Randolph's two Rotary clubs; Mary Gile, freshman from Lebanon High School; and Carlos Melgarejo, senior from Kimball Union Academy. The four speakers elucidated our Four Way Test from very different and very effective perspectives.

The winner of the area speech contest was Carlos Melgarejo, a student attending Kimball Union from Spain. The runner-up in the contest was Mary Gile, who brought with her a family cheering section that included a well-behaved (but enthusiastic) toddler.
