Lenny's Win Rotary Bed Race
Twenty-one teams primarily of college students at SUNY Plattsburgh and Clinton Community College sprinted the beds down City Hall Place during the annual Rotary bed races.
First Place went to the team sponsored by Lenny's Shoe and Apparel.
The UFirst FCU team won Second Place.
Third Place went to the five-member team representing Coryer Staffing.
Students attending the Institute for Advanced Manufacturing at Clinton Community College designed their own bed for the races. While the team won it first couple of heats, it did not make it into the final race.

Lenny's Shoe and Apparel Bed came out on top in the 10th Annual Bed Races held Saturday, Sept. 14, 2019, during the Battle of Plattsburgh festivities.

The Lenny's team, which was crewed by five members of the SUNY Plattsburgh lacrosse team, beat out the second place and favored UFirst Federal Credit Union team, which was stacked with SUNY Plattsburgh men's hockey team members. Third place went to Coryer Staffing which was staffed also by a different group of members of the SUNY Plattsburgh lacrosse team.

The Rotary Club of Plattsburgh held the 10th Annual Bed Races as part of the 2019 Battle of Plattsburgh Commemorative Weekend. Twenty-one teams were entered in the competition, which ran on City Hall Place prior to the start of the annual parade. The majority of the racers -- members of sports teams at either SUNY Plattsburgh or Clinton Community College -- ran in the bed races for the various sponsors supporting the Rotary club. Students at the Institute for Advanced Manufacturing at Clinton Community College designed their own light-weight bed and ran it in the competition.

Rotary Bed Race Co-Chair Vicki Marking said, "We always look forward to the many college students who come and participate in our annual event.  Many visitors to the Battle of Plattsburgh weekend have told us they enjoy watching the teams race down the street as much as they do the annual parade.

"While first place garners the top team $500, these athletes donate the money to many worthwhile causes in our community," Marking said. "The Rotary Club of Plattsburgh is very pleased with the support we have received from our sponsors during the past ten years we have held the bed races. Without their support, we would not be able to hold this event. Thanks to everyone involved."

Proceeds from events sponsored by the Rotary Club of Plattsburgh are used to supports many worthy causes in the community including Beartown Ski Area, Boys Scouts, Girl Scouts, Plattsburgh Little League, YMCA, Literacy Volunteers, North Country Mission of Hope, and for academic scholarships for students attending SUNY Plattsburgh, Clinton Community College and CVPH Medical Center Radiology School.
