We are on our way to bringing some cheer into the lives of local seniors for the coming holiday season. The Rotary Club of Plattsburgh, in partnership with the Senior Citizens Council of Clinton County, Joint Council for Economic Opportunity, Valehaven, Meadowbrook, CVPH Skilled Nursing Facility, Plattsburgh Rehab and Nursing, Clinton County Nursing Home, Pine Harbour Assisted Living, Vilas Home and the Champlain Valley Senior Community, have collected nearly 780 cards of more than 1,105 cards requested for local seniors in area nursing facilities with a couple of days left to go. (Updated 9:30 a.m., Nov. 30, 2020)
Nicole Laurin, development director with JCEO, said, "Holiday cards can be pre-made cards with generic messages. People can make their own cards and write something, they can add notes to a pre-made card, make a picture or craft... really pretty open to anything here."
Laurin said that people can sign with what they are comfortable with.  "Most people I have talked to will be adding their first name only. It's totally fine to sign as the club or organization / business they are affiliated with, but please keep the cards generic. "
Please consider getting your coworkers, friends and family involved.  There are some children's groups that are working on holiday projects and pictures to send as well.  It's a great time to be creative and have some fun!
The holiday cards will be distributed with the help of the organizations/businesses and their staffs to make sure that those that tend to not receive many cards will get them first or possibly multiple cards to balance things out.
If anyone is interested in purchasing items for the nursing homes, centers etc. there are several things desired. Meadowbrook has provided a wish list of items (see below) and Pine Harbour is seeking winter hats, gloves and scarves.  If interested in donating any of these items, please have items shipped or delivered directly to the locations per their guidelines and contact them directly with any questions you may have regarding donations.
If you have any questions please reach out to Nicole Laurin or Ryan Lee.  Thank you everyone!
