The Rotary Club of Plattsburgh's Celebrity Bed Race Regatta took to the streets in downtown Plattsburgh, Saturday, Sept. 10, 2022, prior to the annual Battle of Plattsburgh parade. This year, the competition took on a markedly different format.

LOCAL CELEBRITIES

Local and statewide government leaders and businesspeople competed for the Regatta top winner position. North Country Senator Dan Stec and Assemblyman Billy Jones, Plattsburgh City Mayor Chris Rosenquest, SUNY Plattsburgh President Alexander Enyedi and Plattsburgh Town Supervisor Michael Cashman were just a few of the local celebrities participating.  We will also saw local business leaders vie for the top spot in the "Battle of the Industries"  including representatives from non-profit organizations, credit unions, insurance agencies, car dealers, and real estate brokers.  
 
Members of the athletic teams at SUNY Plattsburgh served as racers pushing the beds and vying for the "Golden Bed Pan" Award! SUNY Plattsburgh's Burghy and the Rotary club's Roducky went head to head in the Mascot heat.
 
Bed Race Regatta Co-Chair Vicki Marking thanked the various sponsors for this event.  "The Rotary Club of Plattsburgh is very pleased with the support our sponsors have always provided for the bed races. We would not be able to hold this event without the support of the community and especially the students from SUNY Plattsburgh. Thanks to everyone involved."
 
In the end, Kimberly Davis from the Plattsburgh Kiwanis Club, won the Bed Race Regatta.  
 

Funds Raised

Marking said the Rotary Club raised $6,350.00 from the RegattaThe Rotary Club distributes proceeds from its various events among many of the club’s beneficiaries, such as academic scholarships for SUNY Plattsburgh, Clinton Community College and CVPH Medical Center Radiology School; monies to assist the Beartown Ski Area, Boys Scouts, Girl Scouts, Plattsburgh Little League, YMCA, Literacy Volunteers, North Country Mission of Hope, and other worthy causes.
