Story of polio eradication efforts and status of efforts in last remaining countries: Pakistan, Afghanistan and Nigeria.
27 cases of polio last year.
2.5 billion children have been immunized through Rotary/Bill and Melinda Gates efforts.
172 million immunizations by 4 million volunteers in 12 hours in India. We did this over and over again, taking polio out of the second most populous country on Earth.
The polio eradication effort has helped us build a global health infrastructure, and it gives us the platform to rid the planet of other horrible diseases (diphtheria, whooping cough).
We are "this close" to ending polio.

WEHOP Grand Haven Team:
  • Gail Ringleberg, Bari Johnson, Gernot Runschke
  • Water Environmental Humanitarian Outreach Program
  • Formed this year from Thirsting to Serve and HHOP with five voting members: Grand Haven, Holland, Muskegon, Spring Lake, Montague/Whitehall Rotary Clubs.
  • Next trip to Honduras is February 15 - 24, 2019
Gernot highlighted two recent projects he worked on:
  • water source, aquaduct, cistern project for a village
  • plumbing, well and cistern project for a hospital
We are very blessed to have super active members who keep us engaged in these critical international efforts.
