Video Program Jennifer Jones TEDx Purdue University Story of polio eradication efforts and status of efforts in last remaining countries: Pakistan, Afghanistan and Nigeria. 27 cases of polio last year. 2.5 billion children have been immunized through Rotary/Bill and Melinda Gates efforts. 172 million immunizations by 4 million volunteers in 12 hours in India. We did this over and over again, taking polio out of the second most populous country on Earth. The polio eradication effort has helped us build a global health infrastructure, and it gives us the platform to rid the planet of other horrible diseases (diphtheria, whooping cough). We are "this close" to ending polio. WEHOP Grand Haven Team: - Gail Ringleberg, Bari Johnson, Gernot Runschke
