This week, the Loutit District Library talked about much of what's happening this summer.
They have a summer reading challenge called the Grand Adventure, which combines a scavenger hunt, local businesses (30 or so), and prizes for all ages to encourage reading!
Their new Makerspace, supported by a fund at the GHACF from the Waanders family, is an exciting new space. What used to be a two-room public computing area has become a Makerspace, which is an area that people can come create, learn new skills, and collaborate with others. One side, called the Lab, is a technology-focused area, and the other side is the Palette, more arts-focused.
The Lab features a 3D printer, a large format printer, heat press, and laser engraver. The large format printer can print up to 24" wide, featuring 9 different inks - think banners, etc. They also have an area to convert photos, cassettes, super-8, DVD, etc. to digital format. There's also a sewing machine, and other cutting machines and even a Tovertafel Pixie machine.
In the Palette, which is the dedicated studio space for traditional arts and crafting. In here, they'll host programming. They have equipment for staining glass and other unique equipment.
Both spaces have open hours and have equipment that can be reserved.
Today, June 15 from 2-4PM and June 23 from 5-7PM there will be an open house. Stay tuned for more information on programming that utilizes the new Makerspace!
June 8 was the Spring Lake vs. Grand Haven Golf Challenge. Sadly, we lost this year, so everyone better start practicing now for next year's event!
