Dale VanZantwick, Vietnam History

The Vietnam War lasted from 1959 - 1973.  At the end of WWII, the country was occupied by Japan and France.  Ho Chi Min aligned himself with the Allies when he saw that Japan was going to lose the war.  Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson and Nixon all presided over this armed conflict.  Dale explored the challenges of fighting a war without a front, and also discussed discord at home over the war effort.

Dale then told the story of his involvement in the war, from being drafted to being picked up at the Armory and shipped out to Detroit, where the riots were in full swing.  In Vietnam, he worked in the rear echelon, providing supplies to forward fire bases. Dale served our Country with honor, service for which we are eternally grateful.
