Frank was brought from San Diego to Grand Rapids in 2003 to work on a project recording World War II veteran oral histories. In 2005 this project was absorbed into GVSU where Frank is an Affiliate Professor in the School of Communications. The oral history project has evolved into recording veterans of all wars, not just WWII.

 

In 2015, Mr. Boring released a documentary on women's professional baseball which existed in the Midwest from 1943 to 1954. A Team of Their Own: The All American Girls Professional Baseball League was a labor of love for the better part of 10 years. Many female baseball players were interviewed as part of the Veteran's History through the Library of Congress.

 

If you know anyone who served in the armed forces please refer them to the GVSU Veteran's History Project (http://www.gvsu.edu/vethistory/) to record their history. There are currently more than 1,500 oral histories recorded at GVSU.

D'Vine Event - Thursday, June 30 at Farmer's Market at Chinook Pier from 6 - 9 p.m. Funds raised will go towards the Bolt Park children's play structure on the East End of Grand Haven. Tickets to the event will be $35 and will available online (it will be very easy). All club members are asked to assist in some way with this fundraising effort.  We can really use auction items - please consider securing items for the silent auction.  We are also seeking sponsors - $250 to sponsor the event.

 

Governor's Installation Dinner - The Installation Dinner for our new District Governor is planned for Monday, June 27.  Cost is $35 per ticket. This special evening will be held at the Trillium and will replace our regular Monday noon meeting to encourage more participation (members will receive a $10 credit).  There will be no weekly meetings on the 27th & 28th so members can plan to attend.  Please save this date and make plans to attend!
