Careerline Tech Center

Dave Searles, Director of Career and Technical Education and Jason Pasatta, Development Director of Career and Technical Education, presented an overview of the students and programs offered at Careerline. Careerline services primarily high school students also sponsors programs for elementary and middle school students.

Over 70% of students taking classes at Careerline pursue higher education after high school. Careerline is part of the OAISD and provides learning opportunities for high school kids throughout the county. There are about 1,400 students attending classes at Careerline. The HS graduation rate for students attending Careerline is very high. About 2/3 of graduating students reside and work within 25 miles of Careerline five years out of HS.

Students of the Month - Jay Greer introduced today's Students of the Month. Kelly Larson (Fortino's) and Dr. Bill Canfield are today's sponsors.

Audrey Borson and Anna Kenney introduced their guests and spoke on their high school highlights. For the first time in anyone's memory, 2 female Students of the Month were honored at our luncheon.

New Member Induction - Crystal Bultje was inducted as the world's newest Rotarian today by Eric Kahlin and sponsor, John Lepard. Welcome Crystal!

WINTER RUN FOR THE PLAYGROUND is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Friday, February 12 in downtown Grand Haven.

Rotary Club of Spring Lake: The Spring Lake Club announced a Euchre Tournament at the Elks Club on Friday, February 12. This is taking the place of the annual Raffle and is part of the annual Spring Lake SNOW JAM.

Mentors Needed: Changes this year - open businesses to students to learn about your career. Please see Mike Helsen if you are interested in volunteering.

District Raffle: Tom Manderscheid is the Club and District Chair of this year's raffle. Sales go from January 1 - February 29. If we sell our allotment, our club can receive $5,000 toward a club project, and $10 of each ticket sold goes toward our club's annual EREY obligation. Members can be billed for the tickets and checks may be made out to Rotary District 6290.

50/50 Raffle Tickets - Approximately $500 total - $99 to the winner, $401 to a Charity of choice (Dale got away before I could get the total from him, so these are estimates only). 29 cards left.

Program Ideas - If anyone has program ideas for the rest of the Rotary year, they should contact Dale Swihart swihartsbd@aol.com or 616-414-7216. Upcoming Rotary themes include: January – Vocational Service; February – Peace & Conflict Prevention and Resolution; March – Water and Sanitation; April – Maternal and Child Health; May – Youth Service; and June Fellowship. Any programs around these themes would be very helpful.
