John Scholtz, Ottawa County Parks.
 
Road Commission started the Parks System, with Tunnel Park in the 1940's and North Shore Park in the 1920's (beach access).  Parks Commission was formed in 1987.  Ten member Parks Commission that oversees all County Parks.
 
.33 mill passed in 1996 (53%) and renewed in 2006 (67%).
 
Newest Park is Olive Shores just north of the Consumers Power Plant on Lake Michigan.  Tom Hanks filmed Road to Perdition on this property.
 
Grand River Greenway is a focus of the Parks Commission.  Much of the land is now acquired, and development is scheduled to begin in the next few years on the Robonson portion.  Eventually we will connect the new US 231 to trails on the north and south side of the river, eventually creating a "Grand River Loop"

Grand Ravines Dog Park, 21 acres of dog park, is remarkably successful. 
 
10,500 volunteer hours donated to our parks last year.

Announcements - Get Involved!
D'Vine Event Auction Items Auction items are needed for our June 30 fundraiser.  If you can come up with some great ideas for auction items (gift baskets, tickets to the big game, sporting goods, grills, etc) please contact Jill Artgetsinger at jill.argetsinger@redfiveit.com

Pay it Forward - Overnight Under the Stars in Central Park to raise funds and awareness for Love INC and Homelessness was postponed due to the poor weather.  It will be rescheduled.  For only $3 you can sleep under sthe starts in Central Park!
 
Paul Harris Fellow Foundation Matching Program- The club will be participating in the Paul Harris Fellow matching program again this year by contributing $250 to match any $250 donation from a member.
 
D'Vine Event - Thursday, June 30 at Farmer's Market at Chinook Pier from 6 - 9 p.m. Funds raised will go towards the Bolt Park children's play structure on the East End of Grand Haven. Tickets to the event will be $35 and will available online (it will be very easy). All club members are asked to assist in some way with this fundraising effort.  We can really use auction items - please consider securing items for the silent auction.  We are also seeking sponsors - $250 to sponsor the event.
 
Governor's Installation Dinner - The Installation Dinner for our new District Governor is planned for Monday, June 27.  Cost is $35 per ticket. This special evening will be held at the Trillium and will replace our regular Monday noon meeting to encourage more participation (members will receive a $10 credit).  There will be no weekly meetings on the 27th & 28th so members can plan to attend.  Please save this date and make plans to attend!
 
July 14 - Social event at the Sailing Club.
 
Rotary Serving Humanity is our theme for the coming year.  Dale Swihart presented a flag to President Brook with the theme on it that he received at the PETS program (President Elect Training).  Meaningful Engagement will be Dale's theme for 2016/2017.  Our Club Assembly will be on May 9th and we will all have an opportunity to get involved.
 
Grand Haven High School Hall of Fame is taking applications through May 17.  Categories include:
  • Cultural Performing Arts
  • Athletics
  • Career/Academic Accomplishment
  • Service to GHAPS/Society
  • Honorary for non-Alumni

50/50 Raffle Tickets - There are 8 cards left this week, with a 50/50 pot of $874 total, $99 to the winner and $775 to the chosen charity.  It went down to the wire, and BILL BASSOW pulled the winner!
