Holding 50+ forums across the State on redistricting in Michigan.

Drawing of lines for congressional districts, Michigan House and Senate Districts and local County districts. Lines must be redrawn every ten years following the census. Federal law requires that each district must have the same number of people (as close as possible). The Legislature sets the districts and the Governor has veto power. If they cannot reach agreement, the Michigan Supreme Court decides.

In 1998 and 2012, respectively, the Democrats and Republicans stacked the deck in their favor. Although votes for Congress were split nearly 50/50, following redistricting our representation was lopsided about 2/3 to 1/3 in favor of the party that controlled the redistricting.

If we wish to change the way we draw our districts, it takes a Constitutional amendment. The League of Women Voters believe the will of the people is not being followed, and they are trying to educate everyone in Michigan so we are aware of the unfair process and ready to act when it comes our way.

Rotary Polo Shirts: Came in last week. If you missed the meeting, please either pick it up during the week at Sweet Temptations or come next week.

Salvation Army Bell Ringing: Club members are asked to volunteer again this year to ring bells at Walmart. The proposed dates are Dec. 5 from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. (this is also the day of the Jingle Bell parade), or Dec. 12 from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. Both dates occur on a Saturday. Volunteers should contact Stacey Trowbridge.

Tempting Tables - Breast Cancer Fundraiser Oct 15- Oct 18. Mary Ann Herbst is director of volunteers for this great event and not only does she want us to come to support the event, she's looking for volunteers to work the event. Please see her!

Student of the Month - $120 per student. Jay Greer will be sending email seeking sponsors for this school year.

Prospective Rotarian Day - Jeckyl and Hyde is coming Nov 9 & 10 - bring a prospective member and enjoy the GHHS musical.

Water Bottle Fundraiser - see John Heritage $15 bucks each. Designed by John and Meghan Heritage designed an attractive water bottle for our sales. This gift to sports teams, family and friends has a reminder inscribed on the side of our club's leadership in international projects.

Card Raffle - $400+/- for charity and $99 to the winner. 32 cards to draw. Rolled over.
