Kristen Perkowski - GHAPS Superintendent Today, Kristen presented to us the most recent update regarding the upcoming bond issue on the ballot this November for GHAPS kids. Using over 200 community engagement touchpoints, Superintendent Perkowski and her team as well as the GHAPS school board put together a long-term master plan for the district and it's facilities. The feedback gained from meetings with the community helped shape the ask for this November. The long term plan involves a 5-8 Campus at White Pines / Griffin, five elementary schools, upgrades to the high school, and utilizing the lakeshore middle school site. The dollars necessary to accomplish all of that is included in the long-term plan would be greater than what the community is expected to support, but more importantly, the entire project would need to be done in phases anyway. Phase 1 would provide funding to do top-to-bottom renovations at Rosy Mound, Ferry, and Peach Plains, transportation upgrades, enhancements to security and technology, and music improvements. The ask is for $98.55 million, a 1.95 mill levy. The likely closing and redistricting of Griffin elementary (due to declining enrollment) makes the improvements made to the three listed schools needed with the added students to already large classrooms.
