Scott Borg, Harbor Transit Director
Scott is our new Director at Harbor Transit, however today he is speaking about his first career as a Regional Manager with UPS.

One of the biggest transitions in recent years is the onset of Amazon. The entry of this giant really changed the nature of parcel delivery in America. After an initial rocky start, UPS was successful in coordinating with Amazon to create synergies and today they work very closely together.

Peak season starts in October and runs through January. The business after the holidays keeps UPS busy, which is gift card and return business.
Drives work 60 hours per week, management works seven days in a row, 16 - 18 hours per day from October through January.
UPS has been part of the roll out of the Covid vaccine as well.
  • UPS founded in Seattle in 1907 below a saloon by Jim Casey in Seattle (American Messenger Company).
  • The local office is in Muskegon. 12th CEO is Carol Thomae, first female CEO. Become publicly traded in 1999.
  • 5.5 billion packages and letters in 2019, 21.9 million per day.
  • Serves 220 countries and every address in North America and Europe.
  • 5,200 UPS Stores in the world and 1,800 operating centers.
  • 125,000 package cars (they do not call them trucks)
  • 4th largest cargo airliner in the world with 566 aircraft, 1,100 domestic flights every day (same number of international flights)
No left hand turns for UPS package cars - saves time, fewer accidents and less carbon footprint.
UPS goes to great lengths to prevent uniforms from being used or duplicated - same with their trucks. The brown brand is very tightly controlled by UPS.
www.UPSjobs.com is a good place to find a very productive and potentially lucrative career.
