Program
Nancy Manglos (Director of Talent & Leadership Development at the Chamber) and Kevin Polston (Principal Lakeshore Middle School) presented on the Lakeshore Youth Leadership Connections program.

Our Rotary Club is a supporter of this excellent inter-school district program offered by the Grand Haven Area Public School, Muskegon Public School and the Chamber.  Each year, twenty students (ten from each school district; five eight grade and five tenth grade) participate in a series of dynamic symposiums designed to build relationships among the students and enhance their college career readiness through the lens of leadership.

The program consists of regular monthly meetings with a focus on leadership and understanding both communities.  The students participate in a service project in each community and hear from area leaders about their leadership journeys.

Nancy and Kevin showed a video that told the story through the eyes of the youth participants.  The kids shared that the experience lifted long-held misconceptions about the other school district, and they learned that we are much more similar than we are different. The program is building lasting friendships and is demolishing untrue stereotypes previously held by our kids.
