Kirsten Runschke introduced the November Students of the Month.  Scott Matthews has participated in basketball, Calling All Colors, the Links program, and the first-ever Men's Volleyball team at Grand Haven High School.  He plans to attend Grand Valley State University next year.  Scott and his family moved to Grand Haven from the Chicago area 10 years ago.  He and his family have been successfully welcomed and involved in the community right from the start.  Emilee Schaub has participated in basketball, golf, and lacrosse while at Grand Haven High School.  She has also been involved with the Chalkboard Project.  She plans to pursue a career in nursing and continue to have an impact on people through healing and life advice.

 

Andy also introduced three students from the Pay It Forward Class at GHHS Madison Chapel, Elise Vandyke, and Juliana Stump.  These students have organized an event on December 12 at Watermark Church to focus awareness on addiction services.  Tickets are free, and the students are seeking donations and business partnerships.

 

Kirsten Runschke shared that her father and Club member Gernot Runschke participated in a bike event in Arizona this past weekend.  Riders completed a 50-mile course and raised $9 million dollars for Rotary's campaign to eradicate polio.  The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation matched the amount raised.

 

Brook Bisonet is wrapping up the Mary A White winter clothing drive.  Cash donations may be given to Brook this week.  Forty-five students are being provided with warm outerwear this year.  Brook's wife Crystal has been working behind the scenes ordering and organizing the items needed.

 

Tom Manderscheid  would like final reservation numbers for the Jingle Bell Parade Party at Consider It Done by November 23.  The party is Saturday December 1.

 

Jingle Bell Parade volunteers needed to assist with float registration and crowd control.  If you are available to help, please contact Mary Sherman at the GH Chamber.

 

Ed Kaminsky attended the meeting and offered fresh Christmas wreaths for sale.

 

Board meeting update -- every month, 2nd Friday. All are welcome. The club is looking at creating a number of social events throughout the year, beginning Thurs, Dec. 13 @ Grand Haven Armory. Social meeting with SL Rotary coming in January. Board is discussing the future of the club. Would the group consider three Monday morning meetings and a different type of meeting on the 4th week? Maybe an evening social? Contact President Dave Swain to express your opinion or provide feedback at one of the monthly meetings.

 

Kirsten Runschke announced that a second host family is needed for Carlos from Peru, the recently arrived GHHS Rotary exchange student.

 

Morning meeting is going to first and third Tuesdays only effective with November, 2018. Meets at 126 Columbus - Riopelle Building.

 

Bari Johnson reminded everyone that the 2019 Honduras trip will take place February 15 - 24.  A $100 deposit made out to WEHOP will hold your place.  Senior and Junior Interact students are invited to participate also.

 

Bell Ringing - Volunteers are needed to collect donations at the G.H. D&W on December 12 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
