Al Vanderberg, Ottawa County Administrator Al provided an overview of County of County government, including initiatives that are underway at the County. Overall, Ottawa County is ranked near the top of Michigan counties, and is one of three MI counties that have achieved a AAA bond rating. The County provides some governmental services to local units, including City of Grand Haven, Spring Lake and Ferrysburg. The County participates with many, if not all local units, libraries, schools, etc., in implementing a shared telephone/IT network. Grand River Greenway is a project to connect 7 county parks on the Grand River to a multitude of other walking and riding trails in the Grand Rapids area. Ottawa County Parks is also in process of purchasing the former sand mining operation in Ferrysburg and adding the more than 350 acres to the county parks system. The County is working with MSU to study groundwater in the County. Issues have arisen over the past several with depleted groundwater and increased salinity in groundwater.
