Kirstin Hintz, Ottawa County Parks
 
Kirstin went to UW Stevens Point and earned a degree in environmental education. Received teaching credentials from GVSU and in 2009 became a naturalist at Hemlock Crossings. She is currently the coordinator for interpretive services for Ottawa County Parks.
 
Ottawa County has:
  • 27 parks
  • 12 open spaces
  • 6,349 Acres
  • 95 miles of trails
  • 1.6 miles of Lake Michigan frontage
Recent acquisition of Ottawa Sands added 345 acres, an 80 acre lake and 1 mile of Grand River riverfront.
 
"Step it Up!" is a program to encourage citizens to get out and enjoy their parks. 
"Coffee with the Birds" is a wintertime Saturday program to observe wildlife and learn about birds.
Our Parks system offers many opportunities for interpretive education at various park sites across the County. Go to miottawa.org- parks to learn more.

Announcements - Get Involved!
Kirsten Runschke announced that she has her first host parents for our inbound exchange student. PLEASE spread the word - we need two more host families. Dates are December through March and March through June. Our student is a 16 year old boy from Peru.
 
Chanda Gregg from the Muskegon Club announced that her daughter is heading to Romania. The Muskegon Club is challenged in finding homes for their student from Chile.
 
Orville Crane from the Muskegon Club addressed the club about MEMBERSHIP. He reminded us that we are a membership based organization and we ought to be placing membership first. Get your ass in gear!
 
Morning meeting location change - August 21 and 28, the Tuesday meeting will be held at 233 Washington, Suite 205 in the 5th Third Bank building.
 
New Generations - please consider sponsoring a student of the month. Let Andy know if you'd like to participate.
 
Last Highway Clean-up - We need 12 volunteers on Saturday, September 22.  We will meet at the GH Burger King at 7:30 a.m.  Clean-up usually takes 1 - 1/12 hours.  Contact Stacey Trowbridge if you can help.
 
Bell Ringing - Jay Davis announced that 5 (or 10 if people want to work in pairs) volunteers are needed to collect donations at the G.H. D&W on December 12th from 10:00 - 3:00.
