Barbara Lee Vanhorssen -- Gracious Grounds and Momentum Center

Barbara Lee provided updates and information on all the services provided at Gracious Grounds and the Momentum Center, located on Columbus between US-31 and 7th Street. The Momentum Center offers social and recreational activities for people with mental illness, addictions and disabilities. No referral or clinical diagnosis is necessary. Monthly calendars are available and everyone is invited to stop in and see what it's all about. Membership costs just $1 per year and allows individuals to participate in all scheduled activities and events. Occasionally there might be an optional activity that requires a small nominal charge.

For more information on Gracious Grounds, Momentum Center and their services, contact Barbara Lee (616) 414-9111, visit the Center at 714 Columbus Avenue, follow them on Facebook or visit their website: https://www.extendedgrace.org/about-the-momentum-center.

Announcements - Get Involved!
District International Grant Awarded -- Paul McNergney announced the Rotary District Review Committee approved our grant request for $10,000 to build water storage basins. We achieved our $5,000 match and received the District's matching share. Thanks again to our Club supporters!

We are partnering with Comayagua Rotary Club and El Ayudante to accomplish this phase of the overall goal of improved sanitation and water in Central Honduras. La Brea and La Laguna are villages in what Tristan called the mid-mountain range where there is no employment -- the land is too low for coffee fields and too high above the fertile valley soil for crops. It is a particularly poverty stricken area.

Also, our 2018-18 Global Grant is being implemented with many water filters and latrines yet to be installed/completed. It will be a busy year for El Ayudante!

Social Outing -- Dave Swain announced the first of many to follow social evenings will take place at K2 (above Kirby) on Thursday, Dec. 13 from 5:30 - 7:30pm. All are invited. Cash bar.

Backpack Blessings -- Pat McGinnis announced a collection of PB & J will take place to be given to kids who receive free or reduced lunch as part of Backpack Blessings. Please, no glass jars! The Community Center, along with many other local collection sites, is a drop off site.

Musical Fountain Sound -- McGinnis also announced fund raising efforts for the Musical Fountain sound system. Brochures were made available on tables.

Jill Davies announced a Dec. 17 visit from the GHHS choral group to perform holiday music. This will be special and Jill would like to take a head count prior to their visit. Contact Jill if you are planning to bring a guest or guests.

Board meeting update -- every month, 2nd Friday. All are welcome. The club is looking at creating a number of social events throughout the year, beginning Thurs, Dec. 13 @ Grand Haven Armory. Social meeting with SL Rotary coming in January. Board is discussing the future of the club. Would the group consider three Monday morning meetings and a different type of meeting on the 4th week? Maybe an evening social? Contact President Dave Swain to express your opinion or provide feedback at one of the monthly meetings.

Kirsten Runschke announced that a second host family is needed for Carlos from Peru, the recently arrived GHHS Rotary exchange student.

Morning meeting is going to first and third Tuesdays only effective with November, 2018. Meets at 126 Columbus - Riopelle Building.

Bari Johnson reminded everyone that the 2019 Honduras trip will take place February 15 - 24.  A $100 deposit made out to WEHOP will hold your place.  Senior and Junior Interact students are invited to participate also.

Bell Ringing - Volunteers are needed to collect donations at the G.H. D&W on December 12 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
