Tom Schmidt - District Governor Update
September 22, 2015

Polio – Recently, two cases were discovered in Afghanistan; however, it has been eradicated in many other areas and we continue to work to eliminate this disease

Zone – One Rotary Summit; promotes public image, membership, and foundation as one project.  This event will take place on Oct. 31 at the MacMullen Conference Center in Roscommon, MI.  Jennifer Jones is Zone Director.  District 6290 is #1 in giving toward polio, and District 6229 holds first place for foundation giving.

Tom joined the Hart Rotary club in 1977 after Erwin Gale, a local community leader encouraged him to become a member.  In 1989, Tom became President Elect.  His primary career has been in ministry and he still preaches on the weekends. As District Governor, his motto is “P.U.S.H.”:
  1. Plan until something happens
  2. Promote until something happens
  3. Persist (in making a difference) until something happens
  4. Give praise until something happens
Tom reported an overall membership gain of 20,000, but also wanted to recognize community corps members who cannot attend meetings, yet help with projects.
Taylor Shriver is an up and coming administrator with the City of Grand Haven.  He is the transparency intern with the city, with a goal of communicating with younger people.

He shared 10 videos that he's made.  We saw quick videos of the beach, city hall, the lighthouse, artwalk, waterfront stadium, the municipal marina, Coast Guard Festival, and the Musical Fountain.
