This year’s Art Walk begins Sept 23rd and runs through October 11. Several events are offered and include the ArtBike Parade, music and artist meet and greet, “Ship Shape” judging, and a youth art award and picnic. Two $500 scholarships will be presented to local high school seniors, and an award ceremony with music, adult beverages, and food will be held on Oct. 8 at the Armory building to close the event. Armory brewing and Righteous Cuisine will provide refreshments.
Barb shared a bit of the event’s history, noting that the first year only two entries were showcased in the museum window. However, by the third year, 60 artists had submitted work. This event is a project of the DDA, and includes a dedicated planning committee that has been together since the events inception. Marketing includes some collaboration with Art Prize in GR; however, ArtWalk would like to see this relationship grow. Another addition this year is a book performance/signing; the book is entitled “Station 11” and focuses on life in a post-apocalyptic western Michigan. For more information go to www.ghartwalk.com
We welcomed district governor Tom Schmidt and his wife Denise as our program today. Tom and Denise live in Fremont and have two children and four grandchildren as well as an exchange student Hilola, from Uzebekistan.
The theme for the year is "Be a gift to the world" and Tom's personal theme is "Push for Rotary". He likes that we have plans to work in our community, but also knows that we need action for them to work. We have to push those plans forward. We also need to promote what we do so that our community knows how we make the world better. Finally we need to praise those who are working and make lives transfromed. By doing all of that, we will be a gift to the world.
Tom is a dynamic governor and we are lucky to have him.

Adopt-a-Beach Clean-up: August 20, 6:00 - 7:30 p.m.
The event is part of a partnership between Barefoot Wine & Bubbly and the Alliance’s Adopt-a-Beach™ program to help clean up Great Lakes beaches and shorelines and make them barefoot friendly. Rotarians are encouraged to participate. After the clean-up volunteers 21 and older will be invited to an after celebration at a local venue. At the Barefoot Wine tent near the pavilion. To park in the lot in the state park you may be required to have a state park recreation passport ($11). Concerts in the Park: The Grand Haven Rotary club will have a table at Tuesdays in the Park (in Central Park) on August 18. Brochures and information on the Club will be shared with concert attendees.

Coal Tipple Dedication: This Thursday at 5:30 the museum is having an ice cream social combined with tours of the train and the dedication of the coal tipple.
