Ken Roberts called meeting to order. Ean Sullivan – Devotional Rick Maucieri – Pledge Guests were introduced – George and Mariann Elwell – visiting Rotarians, and Lori Roberts, Ken’s wife. Treasurer’s Report – LB Showalter gave update on club financials including $5500 in Bank and $2300 raffle ticket balance. We have $6900 club foundation. He had copies of financials available. Discussion of the budget was postponed until next board meeting (7/19) Gene gave report on 4th of July Parade 38 attended/marched/handed out candy and flyers on Flag Program Good opportunity/example for children to see how their parents ‘work’ in a volunteer capacity. Need to check for hits on website for Flag Program Thanks to Ken, Len, Lisa, Rick, and LB Extra thanks to Oscar, for his outstanding job with the truck and trailer Ken bragged a bit about riding in a Corvette, followed by whining when it broke down (overheated) and he had to walk some.
Flags of Honor update – pre-documentation nearly ready to present to city (within next 30 days. Wheel is in Ean’s office. We need input to come up with service projects for the club. Ken is meeting on the 30th of July with the other club presidents – topics to include projects that clubs can work on jointly. Ken introduced Rick Grady – Plano councilperson – who spoke on the “State of the City” Economic development 2017 20,000 jobs added $2Billion in improvements Toyota – 2 million square feet and 4,000 employees Liberty Mutual, JP Morgan and others - lots of square feet and jobs.
Contributions $2 billion in new property values Commercial property tax contributed 92% to ad valorem
Major improvements Jack Carter Park Senior Rec Center (seniors hope it will be finished in their lifetime) Downtown Art district, Saigling House, McCall Plaza Volunteers 8,200 volunteers 104,000 hours of service $2.5M in savings to city
Roads - $92 million Future – 12th street Station, Collin Creek Mall, Legacy Central, Envision Oak Point
Mobility – lots of road work/needs Lots of working partners (i.e., DART, NTTA, TXDOT, etc.) Future - to include autonomous vehicles (Fred Flintstone we are coming) Housing – Lack of affordable housing 5.5 % of land vacant Envision Oak Point plans – for multi-family, single family, student and senior housing
