Thursday – February 8, 2018 Meeting started at 6:05 PM
Jan Sullivan called the meeting to order at 6:05
Chris Henry led the Pledge and Ken Roberts provided an inspirational moment.
Jan talked about the Rotary International Convention – in Toronto – in June. Recommended attendance if possible.
David Rogers introduce his guest – Downa Davis
Treasurer’s Report. LB Showalter commented that people owning dues were not present at the meeting.
Club applied for matching funds for the flag program.
Jan to confront District Gov. at Roundtable meeting on Saturday – where is our money?
Ean Sullivan commented that Dist Gov needs to sign off on the funds request – all clubs are waiting for their money.
Need service projects for February and March. Gene Losey suggested that they be a little less hands-on.
Randy Wright distributed cards asking for bulletin project suggestions and who we would like to hear a classification talk from.
Jan said the Cuban trip has been postponed until October.
Lisa Bloomer gave an update on RYLA committee progress:
- Committee members include – Lisa, Sally Philipp, Ellitt Braud, Satinder Baweja, LB Showalter, Ken Roberts and David Rogers.
- She made contact with people at Plano Academy (committee’s choice for school to pursue) and they were knowledgeable about the program and interested in pursuing.
- They will post flyers, mention program in electronic media at the school, and at a Junior class function in a few weeks.
- With input from Ken Roberts, Sally created a draft of the questions that would be asked of the students during the interview process. She is receiving suggestions from the committee.
- Lisa requested that we have student applications by March 9.
- Committee will begin interviews the week after Spring Break (which is 3/12 – 3/16)
- Next RYLA committee meeting week of 2/12
Jan mentioned strategic planning meeting now April 28 (Saturday) with lunch included. no time/place yet.
Jan also mentioned Rotary Clubs of Plano Presidents meeting which she attended with 4 other club presidents- some of their upcoming events include:
- Plano Metro Mardi Gras Casino night at Glen Eagles on the 24th.
- Pioneer Sip and Sample – Oak Point Park – Feb 14
- Thanks to Plano West who provided land survey for setup of flag program.
- Jan spoke about Citizen of the Month sponsorships.
- Banquet for Sam Johnson – May 31 – Glen Eagles – lunch
- Prior to May 31st, Plano clubs will hold a food drive – and food to be given to Plano Food Pantry under Sam Johnson’s name.
RI President Ian Reisling suggested participation in a plant a tree program. City is planning to plant a grove of trees. Club cost for trees about $1,000 – we provide the labor.
Satinder gave an interesting recap of his educational, travel, and work history – entailing travels and education in many corners of the world.
- Satinder is the President of Milestone Consultants – a company he founded in 1994.
- Prior to that he worked in a variety of project and management consultant capacities for several corporations.
- Satinder attend ·school in India, as well as several other countries – encompassing many different educational styles and philosophies – requiring adaptation and flexibility.
- He has a Bachelor of Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Transportation from B.M.S. College of Engineering.
- He also has a ME, in Engineering - from Texas A&M University
Chris Henry mentioned that his son accepted a full – tenured professorship at UT.
