Dr. James Opara is a board-certified family physician with the Family Medical Center, Walla Walla, WA since October 1996. He received his medical degree from University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus in June 1981. Between then and May 1992, Dr. Opara worked and volunteered in multiple capacities until June 1992, when he was offered an admission to the United States in pursuit of further medical education. He completed his Family Medicine Residency program at Meharry Medical College, Nashville, TN from July 1993 to June 1996. Thereafter, he moved to Walla Walla and has been with Family Medical Center since then, providing primary care to the medically underserved and the community in general. Dr. Opara is a member of several professional societies including the American Medical Association, American Academy of Family Physicians, Washington Academy of Family Physicians, Washington State Medical Association and Walla Walla Valley Medical Society. Dr. Opara belongs to multiple philanthropic organizations and is the President and CEO of Achi Association, USA, an international relief organization. He travels to Nigeria every year on a medical mission trip to provide free medical care to rural communities with no access to affordable health care. He has been a member of Walla Walla Noon Rotary Club since August 2004 and a “Paul Harris Fellow” plus six in that organization. He was the “Rotarian of the Month” in April 2018, honoring him for his selfless and humanitarian services both at the local and the global community level. He is happily married to his beloved wife, Ngozi Opara, RN, BSN, MSN who works with the Jonathan M. Wainwright Memorial VA Medical Center, Walla Walla, WA.
