Rotarians Joan (left) and Terry (right) Toone, from the Rotary Club of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, visited our club October 5, and gave us a polio awareness program. Many comments from the audience were overheard expressing “wow, I didn’t know that!”


Joan is the current President of the Victoria Rotary Club, and her husband Terry is the Polio Plus Chair for Rotary District 5020. She has numerous recognitions including: multiple Paul Harris Fellow, Rotary Foundation Benefactor, President’s Commendation by the Rotary Club of Victoria, Rotary Foundation District Service Award-twice, District 5020 Award of Excellence, and Governor General’s Caring Canadian Award.


Joan speaks passionately about Rotary’s involvement and commitment to polio eradication to anyone who will listen. She is herself a polio survivor.
