Just when you think things are slowing down, bam, it gets busier. When my body is sore and aching, I like to think about how lucky I am, because there are a lot of others out there who have medical conditions much worse than I have. Praying for them to lessen their suffering seems to somehow quell my pains some.
Comstock Park Rotary might be one of the smaller in the state, but we have always done big projects. Projects that have directly affected our community. Take a moment and think about all the projects each of you have sacrificed for. We do it because it is worth it, mainly for the community but also for ourselves because we too have pride and a purpose, SERVICE ABOVE SELF.
The first time I tried to do a front summer sault at Garfield park off the one meter board I failed. My back was bright red and hurt, no tears from me though. Eventually I nailed it and went on to fail more at other new diving stunts. Last year we did not have our BBQ’s, this year we will not have the June and July BBQ’s. However, we have the opportunity to host the August 12 BBQ.
The park is healed and ready. I hope the community is ready to support Rotary once again. It might be taking a little chance to pull it off and make a profit to support some coming projects but we need to try. If we fail, will we slink away and never take a risk again? No. The point is we tried. I believe for us the risk of failing comes in the form of people power on event day. We have to ask others to donate their time to help us. More hands are lite work.
We will have a smaller menu, and try to work with just two grills. Christy and Diane have worked out most of the details, and have followed Kent’s formula. We will have a couple of special meetings to work on final prep. I am thinking the first meeting should be Tuesday July 13 at 11 a.m.This will be a board meeting and as usual open to everyone, but we need to dedicate most our time to the BBQ.
Our next regular meeting is July 15th at noon, and always at the Swan. This will be a special meeting as well because Bernard Spruit and Brent Beuschel will both receive their Paul Harris Fellow awards. We’re proud of you guys, the pins will look good on your lapels. Thank you, and remember the first time you tried to walk, you fell, but you got back up.
