I would like to challenge everyone to go outside your comfort zone at least once in the next month. I am not talking about giving up beer for a month, or forcing yourself to eat a vegetable every night at dinner. I am thinking about driving around looking for a possible “project in a day” . It could be someone’s porch where the boards are pointing up and need to be screwed down. Someone’s garden bed in front of their house which needs some attention. Or, it could be as simple as washing the windows of an elderly person.. Bottom line, let’s look for a project that directly affect someone in our area.
We are all blessed in many ways, because we do not have the problems that some other areas are experiencing. Rising murder rates, shootings, blight, homeless and tent cities have not affected West Michigan in a significant way. Deputy Douglas and his team does a great job of finding and moving out any person who is homeless, living on the street, or in the woods. However, they always offer to take them to one of the places that provides shelter and or food.
Our August BBQ will take place in 12 days. Here is what I see as the upcoming schedule. August 3, is Primary Election day. August 5 is our first meeting of the month. Most of the time this meeting will be spent taking care of final details for the BBQ
By this date, I will be sidelined and recovering from surgery. Sharon fell a week ago and has postponed her surgery until November. Unfortunately, she injured her tail bone which takes a long time to heal. At this time, sitting or bending is difficult and painful.
So, August 12th is the BBQ, we need all hands on deck and please bring lots of friends or family to help.
August 19th will be a regular Rotary meeting at the Swan. I have asked a local business/farm market owner to tell us her story. I am also hoping to be back by then.Stay tuned, we might have a board meeting somewhere in August or September.I would like to go back to having individual members taking the lead for a month and lining up a speaker or project. These are my words and thought for this month. God Bless you and I hope to see you soon.
