Pres Hugh greeted the members and guests, including Kim 'Magic' Wann who is back for another go!
The Doc is doing this from memory as he has mislaid his notes! Typical! [Great Job, Ian]
Pres Hugh updated us on student exchange. With respect to our incoming Brazilian Lass, only the second host family is confirmed. Will be looking to sign up more host families. Please contact Hugh if you wish to refer a Host Family to the Club.
Pres Hugh added to some controversy by wondering if our News Letter needs a new name now we are solidly “Greater Geraldton”. (How about the “Gero Breeze”? Its windy here too! -ed)
Peter Suki on the Mullewa Muster. He advised we will only be doing the day shift due to reduced numbers, but he may have some extra numbers to ease the load. There was some extended explanation on how to get onto the site which added to the confusion! Peter will be camping, so we can imagine what it is going to be like “after work”!
Barry Dring seems to be up to his ears in the “Celebration Cakes”. Some businesses have agreed to take some! Rock on Baz!
After breakfast, as we had no guest speaker, our meeting degenerated into a fun time of Dad Jokes led by Tony.
Alas I can only remember the two crows stuck together on the front lawn; they were apparently Velcrows! (Groan)
We will forget Pres Hugh’s contribution of the flat dog! We had such a great time Tony was presented with a speakers’ award!!
Heads and tails, Bob Mozelle won the Merlot!
Fines:
There were the usual miscreants who attracted fines for the wrong badges, and winning the wine. Eagles supporters for getting a win at last!
Weekly Meeting May 14th
Pres Hugh greeted the members with “Alliterations” and the Doc gave a non-singing invocation much to everyone’s relief!
As usual a controversial breakfast order with last weeks non attenders first! (No justice! -ed)
Phil Martin introduced Kim Wann, who later morphed into our guest speaker, Barry introduced Eugenie and Jo, our Di who is back from her travels!! (Missed you heaps, Di!)
With his usual cadence, Pres Hugh updated us on student exchange. We have potentially three outbound next year including a lass from Karratha and another from the Grammer School. Jo will be handing the role of student counsellor to Kelly Young from the Batavia Coast club. Psalm has sent us a despatch from Italy! With respect to our incoming Brazilian Lass, only the second host family is confirmed. Will be looking to sign up more host families.
Pres Hugh also informed the club of Geoff Wood’s resignation from the club on medical grounds, but he will be kept up to speed with the infamous after Rotary coffee club!
Legacy Golf Day netted $5495 end the club will round this to $6K to present to Legacy, and Pres Hugh thanked the members and friends who helped and in particular the “Woodies”, Geoff and Grant for their organisation of the event.
Peter Moore thanked the club for its support for bicycles for Humanity and in particular to Phil for his help with the container and its transport. We understand it arrived safely in East Timor. “Lucky Cheryl” has indicated NO MORE CONTAINERS!!!
Peter Suki on the Mullewa Muster. He advised we will only be doing the day shift due to reduced numbers. He is still looking for more helpers, preferably fit youngsters! This is on Sat May 31 and is a great day out.
Barry Dring on the “Celebration Cakes”. Seems we have a pallet load of around 360 cakes! Batavia club will be holding a Christmas in July, so they will get some use!
Phil introduced Tim Wann who is a Master Mariner who has returned to Geraldton to semi retire!
Tim ran tugs out of Darwin for many years, selling his last one only recently. He has worked in the Kimberly, Niew Guinea, Manus Island. His scarious moment was rolling a boat at the Abrolhos in his younger days, being lucky to escape with his life! Also, a Navy tug operator Tim has led an interesting life. Of course, the bite was quickly put on him for membership! Maybe a follow up talk with pictures!
Fines:
Jo got the plonk, Tony the wrong badge, Jim’s for being upside down, Baz for a missing invoice and for not being “on the level”! (see photo!-ed) Eugennie for wearing her PJs! There were heaps of birthday and anniversaries, your poor editor lost track!
