The McCusker Centre for Citizenship at UWA, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Perth, invite you to the 2018 Sir Wallace Kyle Oration.

The late Air Chief Marshall, Sir Wallace Kyle, was an Honorary Doctor of Laws at The University of Western Australia and Governor of Western Australia from 1975-1980. The Sir Wallace Kyle Oration is given by distinguished speakers of international standing and outstanding leadership. The theme of the Oration is "Service Above Self", the motto of Rotary. Orator

Professor Stanley's oration will highlight the leadership and contribution individual citizens can make to build a more equal and just world, with reference to her distinguished career.

Biography

Professor Stanley has spent her career researching the causes of major childhood illnesses such as birth defects. Her major contribution has been to establish the Telethon Kids Instituteand the Australian Research Alliance for Children and Youth.

She has over 300 publications, books and book chapters and is a Director of ANDI (Australian National Development Index), a board member of the Gurrumul Yunupingu Foundation, a Governor of The Ian Potter Foundation and a former member of the Prime Minister’s Science, Engineering and Innovation Council, and a former board member of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. She has also served on major international, national and local committees.

For Professor Stanley's research on behalf of Australia's children and Aboriginal social justice, she was named Australian of the Year in 2003 and in 2006 she was made a UNICEF Australia Ambassador for Early Childhood Development.
