Rotarian Rosedanie Cadet, director of Helping Hands Noramise, gave our members an honest assessment of the present condition of our two school gardens in Port-au-Prince and St. Michel, Haiti. The project is funded by IPA grant with coordination of Teach Haiti to rebuild gardens affected by recent earthquakes and storms. The purpose of the gardens, first: a classroom to educate students and secondly to grow and supplement food for school lunches. Over/under watering by 2 agronomists, employed by Teach Haiti, has caused little produce. However, eggs are available twice weekly. Some progress. Accountability oversight is needed. 

 

THE BIG PICTURE: the rule of law in Haiti is the rule of gangs. Roads are blocked in and out of Port-au-Prince. Hospital hours are reduced. School days are reduced to three a week. Gasoline is $20/gallon. Numerous challenges and setbacks have been brought on by Covid, political unrest, and gang violence.  They need our continued support. www.helpinghandsnormaise.org
