Deborah Hoskinson pursued her marketing manager career from Oregon to the San Juan Islands, with a stop at Roche Harbor Resorts before taking the reins of San Juan Islands Visitors Bureau in 2003, now Visit San Juans. "We do our best to balance our vibrant economy with quality of our lives and environment through our marketing and messaging." Working with a $100,000 budget, funding from County and Friday Harbor lodge tax, membership dues from businesses and nonprofits, and website advertisers.
 
As we are visually aware, pandemic times have curtailed the number of visitors, as well as the ferry issue. Although our reputation as an outdoor destination has been well known for countless years, we've received national/international media coverage recently from Good Morning America, Conde Nast Traveler, and my personal favorite: Jet Set!  During our down times, the Bureau created "Shop the San Juans" an online marketplace. With its success, they will continue the website throughout the year.
